摘要: Herein are described compositions useful in the purification of hydrocarbon-contaminated liquids (e.g., oil-contaminated water), methods of their manufacture, and methods of their use. In one instance, the composition can include a porous agricultural substrate selected from the group consisting of walnut shell, pecan shell, apricot pit, peach pit, corn cob, and a mixture thereof; the porous agricultural substrate having an external surface and pores, wherein the external surface is hydrophilic; and an organo-amine carried within the pores of the porous agricultural substrate. These compositions are utilized as regenerable filter media in place of, for example, ground walnut media.

摘要: The present invention discloses a method for preparing and using an absorbent material for apolar compounds or mixtures of apolar compounds, such as organic solvents, mineral oil and derivatives thereof, lubricant oils, edible oils, inter alia. The absorbent material is composed of an fabric matrix of high porosity, low density and high mechanical resistance. This matrix is rendered water-proof, thus acquiring the property of absorbing apolar compounds or mixtures of apolar compounds.

摘要: A hollow tubular oil absorbing material includes: a core formed by a spring, and an outer shell formed by a flat sponge wrapped at the spring; wherein the flat sponge is fixed at both ends of the spring; the flat sponge fully covers all the spring or is sealed at a first end; a connecting tube is connected at a second end of the spring for communicating with a vacuum pump; a graphene oxide layer is coated at the outer sponge. The graphene oxide layer on the flat sponge of hollow tubular oil absorbing material is formed by immersion and coating under negative pressure. Further the reduction of graphene oxide is performed with hydrazine hydrate steam and followed by washing and drying. Finally, a hollow tubular oil absorbing material with a spring core and an outer grapheme-coated sponge structure is obtained, which can be applied to continuous oil-water separation.

摘要: A bio-inspired method for detoxifying contaminated water is disclosed. In the method, polydopamine, a mussel-inspired adhesive catecholamine was used as an adsorbent to effectively remove from contaminated water three major classes of toxic agents: heavy metal ions (e.g., Cr, Hg, Pb, Cu, and Cd), toxic organic species (e.g., 4-aminopyridine), and radioisotopes (e.g., Lutetium-177). Furthermore, the polydopamine adsorbent was regenerated by treatment with acid or hydrogen peroxide.
