    摘要: A combustion control apparatus for an engine having a variable valve timing mechanism capable of varying valve timings of an exhaust valve and an intake valve establishes a combustion mode to either of following three modes, a four-cycle compression ignition combustion mode at a low and medium load area, a two-cycle spark ignition combustion mode at a high load area, and a four-cycle spark ignition combustion mode at a high speed area. Further, the apparatus establishes the valve timings of the exhaust and intake valves so as to form a negative overlap period in which both exhaust and intake valves concurrently close in the neighborhood of the exhaust top dead center (TDC), when the combustion mode is established to the compression ignition combustion mode and establishes the valve timings of the exhaust and intake valves so as to carry out a gas exchange once per one revolution of the engine, when the combustion mode is established to the two-cycle spark ignition combustion mode.

    摘要: In an engine for a motor vehicle, an upward offset of a transmission input shaft is sufficiently increased without being obstructed by a cylinder block. This shortens the overall length of the engine in the longitudinal direction of the motorcycle. The engine for a motor vehicle has a cylinder block extending upwardly and forwardly of the motor vehicle from an upper portion of the front end of a crankcase. A transmission input shaft is offset upwardly with respect to a plane, which includes the axes of a crankshaft and a transmission output shaft. The cylinder block is disposed to have an axis passing forwardly of the axis of the crankshaft. With this construction, it is possible to sufficiently increase an upward offset of the transmission input shaft without being obstructed by the cylinder block.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine includes at least one combustion chamber formed by at least a first member and a second member that moves relative to the first member. The second member is coupled to an output shaft such that movement of the second member causes the output shaft to rotate. A fuel injection system includes a fuel injector that supplies fuel to the combustion chamber and a fuel pump that supplies fuel to the fuel injector. The fuel injector includes an actuator to regulate an amount of fuel injected by the fuel injector. A main switch has an on position and an off position. A fuel control system includes a controller, which is operatively connected to the actuator, and a sensor, which is arranged to detect rotation of the output shaft. The sensor is adapted to produce a signal that is indicative of rotation of the output shaft and is operatively connected to the controller. The controller is configured such that, when the engine is operating and the main switch is turned from the on position to the off position, the controller outputs a control signal to the actuator so that fuel is no longer injected through the fuel injector. After a specified time, the controller outputs a control signal to the actuator to inject a second amount of fuel when the sensor indicates that the output shaft is rotating below a specified speed.

This arrangement tilts the upper front portion of the crankcase downward.

    摘要: During stratified-charge combustion operation of a direct-injection spark ignition engine, at the cylinder compression stroke, a tumble is generated which flows between a spark plug electrode and a piston crown surface toward an injector. A fuel is injected from the injector in correspondence with the cylinder ignition timing by controlling the penetration of fuel spray from the injector to correspond to the tumble flow rate so that the fuel spray may go against the tumble, become a flammable mixture at the cylinder ignition timing and stay near the spark plug electrode. In the late stage of the compression stroke, diffusion of the flammable mixture is suppressed with squishes. Thus, fuel spray behavior in the combustion chamber is controlled to allow suitable mixture stratification over a wide engine operating condition range. This improves combustion quality and extends a stratified-charge combustion zone thereby providing enhanced fuel economy and power output.
