Abstract: A particulate matter sensor is provided. The particulate matter sensor includes: an insulating substrate; a first electrode unit, and a plurality of spaced electrodes; a second electrode unit and a heater unit. Wherein each of the spaced electrode includes a sensing unit, wherein the particulate matter is deposited on the sensing unit, and a capacitor unit is configured on the spaced electrode for measuring capacitance. The plurality of spaced electrodes and the rim electrode are electrically connected when particulate matter is deposited, and thereby the capacitance between the first electrode unit and the second electrode unit can be measured.

Abstract: A method for producing a gasoline engine exhaust gas system having a particulate filter includes using at least one spacer for positioning at least two components provided for the passage of exhaust gas from the engine. The spacer includes ash-forming constituents. The method then includes permanently connecting the components, and burning the spacer element during a first heating up of the exhaust gas system, thereby releasing the ash-forming constituents and depositing the ash-forming constituents on the particulate filter. An exhaust gas system of a gasoline engine also is provided in a state before a first heating up of the exhaust gas system. The exhaust gas system includes a burnable spacer element between two exhaust gas system components that are provided for the passage of exhaust gas. The burnable spacer elements include ash-forming constituents.

Abstract: Exhaust generated from an internal combustion engine includes particulates and gas-phase volatile hydrocarbon condensables. The exhaust is cooled in an exhaust gas cooler from a first temperature to a second temperature such that a first portion of the gas-phase volatile hydrocarbon condensables in the exhaust condense to the liquid phase and a second portion of the gas-phase volatile hydrocarbon condensables in the exhaust condense on black carbon particles to form semivolatile brown carbon particulates. Some or all of the liquid-phase volatile hydrocarbon condensables and the semivolatile brown carbon particulates are trapped in a gasoline particulate filter or a catalyzed gasoline particulate filter located downstream of the exhaust gas cooler.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for exhaust flow in an engine system including a split-exhaust manifold for expediting exhaust catalyst light-off and engine warm-up while reducing condensation in the engine system. In one example, a method may include, before exhaust catalyst light-off, flowing all or more exhaust gases, via a first exhaust valve and a first exhaust manifold, to an exhaust catalyst by passing a heat exchanger. Further, after light-off but before engine coolant warms up to a threshold temperature, all or more exhaust may be delivered to the heat exchanger, via a second exhaust valve and a second different manifold, prior to flowing to the exhaust catalyst; and exhaust gas recirculation may not be provided until the coolant reaches the threshold temperature to reduce condensation.
