Abstract: An aspect of the present invention relates to a control device for an exhaust gas post-treatment device that includes a filter that collects a particulate substance in exhaust gas of an engine and an oxidation catalyst provided upstream of the filter, and that is configured to regenerate the filter by an action of the oxidation catalyst, the control device including a notification unit configured to, in a case in which forced regeneration for forcibly increasing a temperature of the exhaust gas is carried out, when the number of times it is estimated that the temperature of the exhaust gas is lower than a light-off temperature for a period of time equal to or longer than a prescribed period of time exceeds a prescribed threshold, issue a notification indicating that there is a problem in an operation state of the engine.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine system is described herein. The system uses an additive added to the exhaust of the internal combustion engine to maintain a range of NO2 to NO within a range that provides for a fast SCR reaction in a selective catalyst reduction unit. The additive and the exhaust enter a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), whereby the NO2 undergoes a two-stage process. In the first stage, the NO2 from the exhaust is adsorbed onto the precious metal catalyst of the DOC and an atomic oxygen is removed from the NO2, reducing the NO2 to NO. Because of the higher reactivity of the additive, the additive scavenges a portion of the atomic oxygen from the catalyst. During the second stage of the DOC process, the NO is oxidized over the catalyst to form NO2.

Further, the present invention relates a process for preparing such a system and use thereof.

Abstract: An aftertreatment system for treating exhaust gas includes: an exhaust conduit configured to receive the exhaust gas; a preheating oxidation catalyst disposed in the exhaust conduit; a primary oxidation catalyst disposed in the exhaust conduit downstream of the preheating oxidation catalyst; a selective catalytic reduction system disposed in the exhaust conduit downstream of the primary oxidation catalyst; and a controller configured to: determine a temperature of the exhaust gas at an inlet of the selective catalytic reduction system, and in response to the temperature of the exhaust gas at the inlet of the selective catalytic reduction system being below a threshold temperature, cause hydrocarbons to be provided to the preheating oxidation catalyst or to the exhaust conduit at a location upstream of the preheating oxidation catalyst. The preheating oxidation catalyst catalyzes combustion of the hydrocarbons so as to increase the temperature of the exhaust gas to above the threshold temperature.

Abstract: A method for monitoring a particulate filter in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. A loading of the particulate filter is determined by a differential pressure measurement between the inlet of the particulate filter and the outlet of the particulate filter. A loading of the particulate filter is modeled by a soot loading model for the particulate filter. A regeneration of the particulate filter is initiated and the particle removal is compared from the particulate filter determined through the differential pressure measurement with the particle removal modeled by the soot loading model. A fault message is initiated if a difference between the calculated particle removal and the measured particle removal exceeds a threshold value. An internal combustion engine having a control unit and an exhaust system for carrying out such a method are also provided.

Abstract: A mixer assembly comprises a tubular housing including an exhaust gas inlet, an exhaust gas outlet, and a reductant inlet on a side of the tubular housing. An upstream mixing element is positioned within the tubular housing upstream from the reductant inlet. A downstream mixing element is positioned within the tubular housing downstream from the reductant inlet and the upstream mixing element. The upstream and downstream mixing elements at least partially define a reductant receiving mixing chamber in which the injected reductant and exhaust gas mix. A divider is positioned within the tubular housing downstream from the upstream mixing element to split the exhaust into two divided flow streams prior to exiting through the exhaust gas outlet.
