Abstract: In a device for the aftertreatment of exhaust gases from an emission source, in particular an internal combustion engine, with an exhaust tract through which an exhaust gas can flow in a direction of flow, with at least one catalytic converter, the catalytic converter having a ceramic honeycomb body has: a catalytically active surface coating, and with an electrically heatable heater, the heater having a metallic electrical conductor, the honeycomb body further having a plurality of flow channels which can be flowed through from a gas inlet side to a gas outlet side, wherein the conductor is integrated in the ceramic honeycomb body, and is arranged downstream of the gas inlet side and upstream of the gas outlet side, as viewed in the direction of flow.

Abstract: A method for monitoring a thermal degradation state of a reducing solution contained within a reservoir includes the steps of providing a first functional relationship associating a quantity indicative of a temperature of the solution with a first parameter associated with the thermal degradation state, acquiring the quantity, and determining the first parameter as a function of the acquired quantity via the first functional relationship, wherein the degradation state is monitored based on the first determined parameter. The first functional relationship comprises an increasing function of a product between the running time and an increasing coefficient with said quantity of the temperature.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine system is described herein. The system uses an additive added to the exhaust of the internal combustion engine to maintain a range of NO2 to NO within a range that provides for a fast SCR reaction in a selective catalyst reduction unit. The additive and the exhaust enter a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), whereby the NO2 undergoes a two-stage process. In the first stage, the NO2 from the exhaust is adsorbed onto the precious metal catalyst of the DOC and an atomic oxygen is removed from the NO2, reducing the NO2 to NO. Because of the higher reactivity of the additive, the additive scavenges a portion of the atomic oxygen from the catalyst. During the second stage of the DOC process, the NO is oxidized over the catalyst to form NO2.
