    Abstract: A vehicle includes: a vehicle body; a support structure that is connected to the vehicle body and which is configured to provide a framework for one or more thermal components of the vehicle; a reinforcement member that is connected to the vehicle body and which is configured to absorb impact forces; and an active grille shutter that is connected to the support structure. The active grille shutter includes an integral pedestrian guard that is configured for contact with a pedestrian's leg to protect the pedestrian's leg during an impact.

    Abstract: A deformation structure has at least a first layer and a second layer, which are spaced apart from each other and are mounted to be movable relative to each other in the deformation direction or load direction. The first layer and the second layer have complementary protrusions and recesses, which are designed such that the protrusions of the first layer can dip into the recesses of the second layer and vice versa. The first layer and the second layer are connected to each other by deformable connecting pieces such that, in the event of a high impulse in the deformation direction, the protrusions of the first layer dip into the recesses of the second layer and the protrusions of the second layer dip into the recesses of the first layer such that the deformation structure is deformed in the deformation direction at a relatively low level of force and, in the event of a low impulse in the deformation direction, the protrusions of the first layer hit the protrusions of the second layer such that the deformation structure is deformed further in the deformation direction at a relatively high level of force. The deformation control device is formed or produced separately from the first and the second layer and is removably or non-removably connected to the first layer and the second layer.

    Abstract: A pedestrian protection device for a motor vehicle having a windscreen and an A-pillar extending adjacent a side edge of the windscreen. The protection device comprises a base member securable to the A-pillar of the motor vehicle, and a trim member moveable relative to the base member. A deployment mechanism is operable upon actuation of the device to drive the trim member away from the base member from an initial position in which the trim member is proximal to the base member, to a deployed position in which the trim member is spaced from the base member. The deployment mechanism comprises a plastically deformable member interconnecting the base member and the trim member and which is arranged, in said deployed position of the trim member, to absorb impact energy arising from impact between a pedestrian and the trim member in compression.
