Abstract: A robotic device for a minimally invasive medical intervention on soft tissues is provided. The robotic device uses a medical instrument having a robot arm having several degrees of freedom and having an end suitable for receiving the medical instrument, an image capture system suitable for capturing position information concerning the anatomy of the patient, a storage medium having a biomechanical model of the human body, a processing circuit configured to determine a position setpoint and an orientation setpoint for said medical instrument on the basis of the biomechanical model, on the basis of the position information and on the basis of a trajectory to be followed by the medical instrument in order to perform the medical intervention, and a control circuit configured to control the robot arm in order to place the medical instrument in the position setpoint and the orientation setpoint.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling an emitter assembly comprising a single electromagnetic radiation source for visualizing a surgical site. The emitter assembly comprises a light valve assembly that is coupled to a control circuit. The emitter assembly is configured to emit visible light, infrared radiation, or a combination thereof in either structured or unstructured formats. The control circuit is configured to control the light valve assembly to control which emitter of the emitter assembly is emitting electromagnetic radiation. The light valve assembly can include light valves for controlling whether an emitter receives electromagnetic radiation. Further, the control circuit can control the wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the source in accordance with which emitter is receiving electromagnetic radiation.

Abstract: Alignment instruments may include joint-line referencing systems having an alignment arm having a body with first and second portions defining first and second sides. The first portion has at least one first pin tube through-hole extending from the first to the second side. The second portion has a first opening on the first side. A pin tube guide member is receivable in the first through-hole. The pin tube guide member has a passageway therethrough. An angelwing alignment member includes a portion receivable in the first opening of the alignment arm. An alignment foot is secured to the second portion, and the alignment foot has a handle and a shim. The shim is positionable in a joint between a first bone and a second bone, the alignment arm is alignable relative to a first bone, and the pin tube guide is operable for securing a pin into the first bone.

Abstract: Systems and methods for guiding a surgical procedure based on a surgical procedure plan may include an image capture device that captures one or more images of an exposed anatomical feature of a patient. These systems and methods may also include a computing device configured to receive a surgical procedure plan based on one or more desired attributes related to an anatomical 3D model representing the exposed anatomical feature of the patient. The computing device may register the anatomical 3D model to the exposed anatomical feature of the patient based on the one or more images of the exposed anatomical feature and a projector may further provide surgical guidance information to a surgeon based on the surgical procedure plan to facilitate performance of the surgical procedure.

Abstract: In order to puncture the artery running in parallel to the deep vein, a method or a tool for selectively visualizing the artery in a near-infrared image so as to form a near-infrared image of a portion to be punctured is provided. In the method for visualizing the artery by forming a near-infrared image of a portion of the artery to be punctured, the surface of the skin to be punctured is pressurized with a near-infrared light transparent material so as to collapse the deep vein running in parallel to the artery as well as the subcutaneous vein. An auxiliary tool for selectively visualizing the artery preferred for this pressurization is formed from a near-infrared light transparent material and has a notch through which a puncture needle can pass.

Abstract: A retractor includes a handle portion, a blade portion coupled to the handle portion. The blade portion is configured for insertion into an internal region of a patient. The blade portion includes a first portion configured to manipulate tissue of the patient. In an embodiment, a locator element is configured to highlight an external region of the patient to indicate to a user the location of the first portion in the internal region. In an embodiment, a signal-transmission medium is coupled to the blade portion and has a port. An overmolded camera unit has a lens and is configured to couple with the port. When the camera unit is coupled with the port, the lens is oriented to capture images of the internal region.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a bite tray having fiducial markers for head scan registration and method of use. The bite tray is held by a patient in his teeth while the scan of his head and the fiducial markers is made by x-ray, CT, or MRI and the scan is entered into a computer to register the scan to the fiducial markers. Instrument optical markers are placed on a dental instrument and it is observed by a camera and the observation is entered into the computer to register the instrument optical markers to the dental instrument. Patient optical markers are placed on the patient and it is observed by the camera and the observation is entered into the computer to register the patient optical markers to the patient. The tip of the dental instrument is then touched to one of the fiducial markers making the location of the tip and the fiducial marker the same. The computer then registers the scan to the instrument and the patient. The bite tray is then removed from the mouth allowing access by the dentist to the teeth. The camera follows the movement of the instrument optical markers to the patient optical markers to create a display of the instrument and tip on the scan.

The image or other data may then be used to determine one or more regions of interest of the target. An ambient ionisation ion source may then be used to generate aerosol, smoke or vapour from one or more regions of the target.
