Abstract: Compounds, systems, and methods are provided for the design and assembly of a non-invasive, analyte sensing dressing. The dressing can be therapeutic. The dressing includes a sensor and a matrix. The sensor is capable of detecting analytes such as molecular oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitric oxides, dissolved analytes in plasma, and hydrogen ions. The matrix is at least partially permeable to the analyte. The device emits a detectable signal when the sensor is excited in the presence of the analyte. In one version of the dressing, the sensor includes a meso-unsubstituted metallated porphyrin that is sensitive towards oxygen. The metallated porphyrin can be excited when illuminated at a first wavelength, followed by emission of phosphorescence at a second wavelength whose intensity can be used as an indicator for oxygen concentration.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for locating the parathyroid. In one aspect, temporal variation among a plurality of images is evaluated and at least one image is enhanced according to the temporal variation. The image may be enhanced to one or both of reduce conspicuity of the thyroid gland and enhance conspicuity of the parathyroid gland. Some of the plurality of images may be adjusted in order to align representations of a target portions. Adjustments may be based locations of one or more organs or one or more artificial markers affixed to a living body in the plurality of images. A local positioning system (LPS), GPS, or other locating system may be used to position a living body, align the plurality of images, or to guide the positioning of objects relative to the living body. An elastomeric gel marker for imaging applications is also disclosed.

Abstract: Systems, devices and methods are presented for embolic protection. In some embodiments, a device for implantation in a patient's vessel containing a fluid flow is provided which comprises proximal and distal ends, an undeployed, substantially linear state, and a deployed, spring-like (helical) state comprising windings. When the device is deployed, the line segment connecting the proximal and distal ends is approximately perpendicular to the majority of the windings and to the fluid flow. In some embodiments, a delivery device for the monofilament device is provided. The delivery device comprises a needle having a lumen, a sharp distal end, and a pusher slidable within the needle. A method for deploying the monofilament device using the delivery device is provided.

Abstract: Images obtained by a camera system (10) arranged to obtain images of a patient (20) undergoing radio-therapy are processed by a modeling unit (56,58) which generates a model of the surface of a patient (20) being monitored. Additionally the patient monitoring system processes image data not utilized to generate a model of the surface of a patient being monitored to determine further information concerning the treatment of the patient (20). Such additional data can comprise data identifying the relative location of the patient and a treatment apparatus (16). This can be facilitated by providing a number or retro-reflective markers (30-40) on a treatment apparatus (16) and a mechanical couch (18) used to position the patient (20) relative to the treatment apparatus (16) and monitoring the presence and location of the markers in the portions of the images obtained by the stereoscopic camera (10).

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for providing guidance for operation of a localization insertion device based on ultrasonic imaging. Ultrasonic waves are emitted and detected by an ultrasonic transducer to generate image data. An introducer for placing a localization wire is identified within the generated image data. Based on the identification of the introducer, the methods and systems may determine a predicted location based at least in part on introducer properties and localization wire properties. The predicted location of the ring of the localization wire may be the predicated location of the localization wire when positioned subcutaneously with the localization insertion device. At least one indicator may be displayed indicating the determined predicted ring location.
