摘要: Powered drivers (10) for inserting an intraosseous device (160) into a bone and associated bone marrow are disclosed. Some of the powered drivers (10) may include a housing (12) having a distal end (14) and a proximal end (16); a motor (18) disposed in the housing (12); a driveshaft (34) extending outward from the distal end (14) of the housing in a direction away from the proximal end (16); a gearbox (32) coupled to the motor (18) and to the driveshaft (34) such that activation of the motor (18) causes the driveshaft (34) to rotate; and a power source (40) configured to power the motor (18). A guard member (50) may be pivotably connected to the housing (12) and movable between a protective position and a non-protective position. The guard member (50) may be configured to cover the intraosseous (10) needle assembly in the protective position and to expose the intraosseous (10) needle assembly in the non-protective position. A biasing member (70) may be configured to urge the guard member (50) toward the non-protective position.

摘要: The present invention is directed to systems, devices and methods for trans-septally delivering carbon dioxide through a minimally invasive catheter to create a gaseous pocket or emphysema between the posterior wall of the left atrium and the esophagus during cardiac ablation of the left atrium. This pocket of gas expanded tissue serves to thermally insulate and separate the esophagus from the left atrium during ablation to prevent esophageal damage and the formation of an atrial-esophageal fistula. The system comprises a control system to precisely deliver the gas to a desired location through a needle-based catheter assembly.

摘要: A precision depth guided instrument, such as a Jamshidi needle, is provided for use in various surgeries related to the vertebrae. The instrument includes an outer cannula, an inner cannula and a stylet. After the cortical bone of a vertebra is penetrated by the outer cannula of the instrument, the depth of penetration of the inner cannula is adjusted by rotation of the inner cannula. The inner cannula is then moved further into the vertebrae, and a stop mounted on the outer cannula controls the depth of penetration of the inner cannula. The correct depth of penetration is determined by radiography prior to the procedure.

摘要: An instrument fixation device includes a retaining ring, a ball joint disposed within and movable relative to the retaining ring, and a locking mechanism. The ball joint defines a channel configured to receive an instrument therethrough. The locking mechanism includes a locking sleeve and a lock. The locking sleeve is at least partially disposed within the retaining ring and engages the outer surface of the ball joint. When the locking mechanism is in an unlocked position, the ball joint is free to move within the retaining ring and when the locking mechanism is in a first locked position, the locking sleeve engages the outer surface of the ball joint to fix the ball joint relative to the retaining ring.
