Abstract: Methods and devices for consistently and accurately controlling the depth of the graft tunnel. A sheath is inserted into the bone until a stop member on the sheath contacts the bone. A cutting member is then deployed to drill a larger bore in the tunnel until making contact with the distal end of the sheath. The cutting member may be drawn retrograde within the tunnel, or driven antegrade from an opening opposite the opening in which the sheath resides. The drill and the sheath can then be removed, leaving the tunnel that includes a tunnel portion sized to fit a graft so that the graft fits tightly within the tunnel portion and is flush with the opening of the tunnel.

Abstract: An arthroscopic system includes a re-useable, sterilizable handle integrated with a single umbilical cable or conduit. The single umbilical cable or conduit carries electrical power from a power and/or control console to the handle for operating both a motor drive unit within the handle and delivering the RF power to a disposable RF probe or cutter which may be detachably connected to the handle. The RF power delivered to the handle and on to the probe or cutter is typically bi-polar, where the handle includes first and second electrical bi-polar contacts that couple to corresponding bi-polar electrical contacts on a hub of the disposable RF probe or cutter is connected to the handle.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for an articulating microsurgical instrument is disclosed herein. The articulating microsurgical instrument may be configured to be operable with a Doppler probe, bone grasper, soft tissue grasper/dissector, scissors, flexible forceps, or a suction/irrigation line configured to provide tools within a surgical location that can be adjusted to a desired angle of operation. A tip assembly may comprise an articulating portion at a distal tip and the articulating portion may be configured to deflect upon actuation of an articulation control. The articulation control may be a trigger assembly or a roller wheel. A bayonet-style handle may include a set of posts configured to interact with the one or more control wires during actuation of the articulation control. One or more control wires may be housed in a lumen and actuated using a articulation control of a handle assembly.

Abstract: A powered handle for a surgical stapler can have a drive system including an electric motor. The powered handle can include a manual articulation mechanism to articulate a jaw assembly coupled to a reload shaft connected to the handle. The manual articulation mechanism can include a ball screw mechanism that translates an articulation member responsive to rotation of an articulation knob when an instrument shaft is engaged with the handle. The articulation mechanism includes a release function that allows the jaw assembly to return to a longitudinally centered orientation. The powered handle includes a battery pack serving as a power supply for the drive system. A control system can control actuation of the motor based on user inputs and operating parameters of the stapler and can provide certain motor drive profiles for predetermined positions of the stapler. The powered handle can include a manual return mechanism.

Abstract: A modular surgical instrument system that comprises modular components and a control circuit electrically couplable to the modular components. The modular components comprise a shaft and a handle assembly. The handle assembly comprises a disposable outer housing. The disposable outer housing is movable between an open configuration and a closed configuration. The handle assembly further comprises a control inner core receivable inside the disposable outer housing in the open configuration. The disposable outer housing is configured to isolate the control inner core in the closed configuration. The modular components further comprise a loading unit releasably couplable to the shaft and a staple cartridge releasably couplable to an end effector. The loading unit comprises the end effector. The control circuit is configured to generate an interrogation signal, detect a response signal, determine a modular configuration of the modular surgical instrument system, and assess authenticity of the modular configuration.

The tattoo removal method and system can be used to remove the tattoo from the skin of the subject being treated. In addition, the method and system described allows for the extraction of the tattoo ink particles, which may have toxic properties, from the subject's body.

Abstract: A surgical access device includes an obturator head, an elongated shaft extending distally from the obturator head along a longitudinal axis, and an obturator tip. The obturator tip includes a reusable portion and a replaceable tip. The reusable portion is attached to a distal portion of the elongated shaft such that the reusable portion is configured to be sterilized with the elongated shaft. The replaceable tip includes a tapered distal tip and a proximal coupling body. Abstract: A gatekeeper electronic signal can be generated by a patient sensor and/or in an intermediate device, such as an electrical cable, that is separate from a patient's physiological information electronic signal. The gatekeeper signal can be generated to indicate to a computer monitor that the sensor and/or cable is of the type that is compatible with, and/or usable with, such computer monitor, and/or that the sensor and/or cable is properly attached to the computer monitor. The gatekeeper signal can be created by an ambient temperature sensor on, or in electrical communication with, the patient monitor, and/or the gatekeeper signal can be created by a gatekeeper electronic signal generator to simulate an ambient temperature value. The gatekeeper signal can be separate from an electronic signal or plurality of signals that include patient physiological information, and the gatekeeper signal may not include any patient physiological information.

Abstract: A joint decorticator instrument configured for single use. The joint decorticator has a metal rod affixed within a polymer sheath. The polymer sheath has a longitudinal channel configured to receive an alignment protrusion with a working channel for maintaining the joint decorticator in a proper alignment relative to the working channel. The joint decorticator may include an integrated extraction mechanism involves an extraction lever pivotally connected to the handle portion of the polymer sheath. The extraction lever has an eccentric cam mechanism. When the extraction lever is pivoted toward an open position, the cam exerts a force onto a collar of the working channel and an opposite force on the connector pin that pivotally connects the extraction lever to the polymer sheath, thereby dislodging the abrading head of the joint decorticator from the joint.
