Abstract: A volume filling device for treatment of obesity is placed outside the stomach wall of the patient to reduce the inner volume of the stomach, thereby affecting the patient's appetite. By providing the volume filling device outside the stomach wall, contact with stomach acids is avoided, thereby increasing the life of the device.

Abstract: An arthroscopic system includes a re-useable, sterilizable handle integrated with a single umbilical cable or conduit. The single umbilical cable or conduit carries electrical power from a power and/or control console to the handle for operating both a motor drive unit within the handle and delivering the RF power to a disposable RF probe or cutter which may be detachably connected to the handle. The RF power delivered to the handle and on to the probe or cutter is typically bi-polar, where the handle includes first and second electrical bi-polar contacts that couple to corresponding bi-polar electrical contacts on a hub of the disposable RF probe or cutter is connected to the handle.

Abstract: A gastroscopic method of implanting a device for treating obesity of a patient by the device being postoperatively and non-invasively regulated to actively stretch a portion of the stomach wall of the patient to actively create a feeling of satiety. The method comprising the steps of: inserting the stretching device into the stomach of the patient through the esophagus, inserting the operation device into the body of the patient, the operation device being adapted to be connected to the stretching device, placing the stretching device in contact with the stomach wall, and fixating the stretching device to the stomach wall such that the operation device can regulate the device for actively stretching the portion of the stomach wall to actively create a feeling of satiety in the patient.

Abstract: A method of puncturing from an aorta into a left atrium using a puncturing device. The method involves a step of accessing a carotid artery and advancing a puncturing device through the carotid artery into an aorta. Advancing a sheath and a dilator over the puncturing device through the carotid artery and into the aorta such that a puncturing tip of the puncturing device is aligned with a distal tip of the sheath and a distal tip of the dilator, forming a puncturing assembly. Positioning the puncturing assembly at a target site within the aorta to gain access to a left atrium of a heart. Tenting a tissue between the aorta and the left atrium using the puncturing assembly. Creating a puncture through the tissue by advancing the puncturing device such that a channel between the aorta and the left atrium is formed.

Abstract: A control system includes a processor communicatively coupled with first and second user-actuated input mechanisms. The processor is configured to, in response to a first input at the first user-actuated input mechanism, command a jaw mechanism of an end effector to move from an open position to an intermediate closed position within the range of motion of the jaw mechanism, and command a translating mechanism of the end effector to move from a proximal position to an intermediate position relative to the jaw mechanism. In response to a second input at the first user-actuated input mechanism, the processor is configured to command the jaw mechanism to move to the closed position, and command the translating element of the end effector to move from the intermediate position to the distal position.

Abstract: A surgical access assembly and method of use is disclosed. The surgical access assembly comprises an outer sheath and an obturator. The outer sheath and obturator are configured to be delivered to an area of interest within the brain. Either the outer sheath or the obturator may be configured to operate with a navigational system to track the location of either within the brain. Once positioned at a desired location, the obturator is removed, leaving a distal end of the outer sheath adjacent an area of interest, and creating a working corridor. Interrogation of the area of interest may be performed to evaluate a disorder and/or abnormality, as well as evaluate treatment regimes. Interventional devices may also be introduced to the area of interest, as well as a variety of treatments.

Abstract: An arthroscopic device is used with a hand piece having a motor drive with a rotating drive shaft. An elongate probe extending along a longitudinal axis and includes a proximal hub on a proximal end. The proximal hub detachably couples to the hand piece, and an operable-closeable jaw structure is disposed on a distal end of the elongate probe. A conversion mechanism carried by the hub converts a rotational motion of the motor drive shaft to a longitudinal motion of an actuator member. The actuator member drives the jaw structure between jaw-open and jaw-closed positions to resect bone and other hard tissues.
