摘要: This invention concerns a laser solidification apparatus for building objects by layerwise solidification of powder material. The apparatus including a build chamber containing a build platform, a device for depositing layers of powder material on to the build platform, an optical unit for directing a laser beam to selectively solidify areas of each powder layer and a spectrometer for detecting characteristic radiation emitted by plasma formed during solidification of the powder by the laser beam. The invention also relates to a spectrometer for detecting characteristic radiation generated by interaction of the metal with the or a further laser beam. The spectra recorded using the spectrometer may be used for feedback control during the solidification process.

摘要: A low profile phased array antenna that is configured to be manufactured using additive manufacturing techniques is provided. In one or more embodiments, the phased array can include a plurality of signal ears, ground ears, and clustered pillars that can be arranged in relation to a base plate such that each component of the antenna can be manufactured from a single piece of material, thereby allowing for the use of additive manufacturing techniques which can substantially reduce the cost and time of the manufacturing process. The phased array can include a signal ear that include one or more posts that interface with an airgap located within a base plate of the array, wherein the size of the airgap in relation to the size of the post is configured to achieve an optimal level of impedance matching.

摘要: Additive manufacturing systems and methods utilizing an optical light valve configured to spatially modulate the intensity of a laser beam, in conjunction with a writing and erasing sub-system configured to repeatedly write and erase patterns in the optical light valve to repeatedly vary the spatial modulation of the laser beam. In some implementations, the systems and methods may also employ additional laser beams or other energy sources that are not spatially modulated by the optical light valve. In some implementations, the systems and methods may employ additional laser beams or other energy sources configured to reduce surface roughness of the powder or other material being used for additive manufacturing.

摘要: 738LC composition belongs to Ni-based super-alloy family. The alloy has been successfully used for hot section of turbine engine. Blades, Vanes and heat shields are made out of the alloy which can sustain a working temperature of 700 to 850 deg C. Additive manufacturing processes like Selective laser melting or PBF-L are not successful in using the alloy powder due to cracking issues. 738LC is also known to fall under the category of non-weldable alloys due to high content of gamma prime phase. The invention of the new composition is outside the standard 738LC with different concentration, morphology and size distribution of gamma prime phase. The invention has shown to eliminate the cracking issue in AM laser based process. The room temperature tensile properties observed are much better than cast 738LC properties.

The recoater is configured to discharge powder such that a powder layer is formed from the powder. The mixer is configured to mix a plurality of powder constituents to produce the powder and to dispense the powder to the recoater. The powder feeder is configured to selectively dispense a mass of each one of the plurality of powder constituents to the mixer such that a composition of the powder is selectively controlled.
