Abstract: A method of additive manufacture suitable for large and high resolution structures is disclosed. The method may include sequentially advancing each portion of a continuous part in the longitudinal direction from a first zone to a second zone. In the first zone, selected granules of a granular material may be amalgamated. In the second zone, unamalgamated granules of the granular material may be removed. The method may further include advancing a first portion of the continuous part from the second zone to a third zone while (1) a last portion of the continuous part is formed within the first zone and (2) the first portion is maintained in the same position in the lateral and transverse directions that the first portion occupied within the first zone and the second zone.

Abstract: Optical devices that combine imaging with spectral detection usually require bulky or expensive optics or are limited in the spectral measurements that can be made. The disclosed device uses a lens and mirror to provide two image planes: one for a pixelated detector and the other for an optical fiber assembly. The optical fiber assembly may be scanned over most or all of the field of view, or this may be achieved with a fixed fiber assembly and translatable mirror. Multiple fibers may be included in the assembly and multiple measurement or other devices may be connected to the remote ends of the optical fibers.

The beam shaping lens group shapes the combined beam to generate a shaped beam with a perfect circle. The MEMS scanning module reflects the shaped beam and scans in horizontal and vertical directions to form a scanning beam. The beam expansion lens group expands the scanning beam into an expanded beam having a predetermined area.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for powder bed fusion additive manufacturing involve a multiple-chamber design achieving a high efficiency and throughput. The multiple-chamber design features concurrent printing of one or more print jobs inside one or more build chambers, side removals of printed objects from build chambers allowing quick exchanges of powdered materials, and capabilities of elevated process temperature controls of build chambers and post processing heat treatments of printed objects. The multiple-chamber design also includes a height-adjustable optical assembly in combination with a fixed build platform method suitable for large and heavy printed objects.

Abstract: An ophthalmic laser system uses a non-confocal configuration to determine a laser beam focus position relative to the patient interface (PI) surface. The system includes a light intensity detector with no confocal lens or pinhole between the detector and the objective lens. When the objective focuses the light to a target focus point inside the PI lens at a particular offset from its distal surface, the light signal at the detector peaks. The offset value is determined by fixed system parameters, and can also be empirically determined by directly measuring the PI lens surface by observing the effect of plasma formation at the glass surface. During ophthalmic procedures, the laser focus is first scanned insider the PI lens, and the target focus point location is determined from the peak of the detector signal. The known offset value is then added to obtain the location of the PI lens surface.
