Abstract: There is provided an imaging device capable of improving the image quality of a reconstructed image in lensless imaging, and a method for operating the imaging device. In lensless imaging, a selection filter is provided that, for each of a plurality of regions into which an imaging surface on the imaging element is divided, allows only the modulated light having optical characteristics that are orthogonal to each other between the regions adjacent to each other, to pass through. With a sub-area set for each selection filter as a unit, the modulation mask converts the incident light into modulated light having optical characteristics corresponding to the selection filter based on at least one of polarization and spectroscopy. The present disclosure can be applied to an imaging device.

Abstract: An imaging element of the present technology includes a first pixel block having a plurality of pixels including color filters of a same first color and a second pixel block having a plurality of pixels including color filters of a second color different from the first pixel block, the number of pixels of the second pixel block being different from the number of pixels of the first pixel block. The first pixel block and the second pixel block have a configuration in which a charge-voltage conversion unit and succeeding pixel constituent elements are among a plurality of pixels. The imaging element further includes a signal amount adjustment unit that adjusts an output signal amount output from each pixel of the first pixel block and the second pixel block. The signal amount adjusting unit adjusts the output signal amount so that the output signal amount concerning the first color and the output signal amount concerning the second color match.

Abstract: A vehicular driver monitoring system includes an interior rearview mirror assembly that includes a mirror head accommodating a mirror reflective element. A megapixel camera is accommodated by the mirror head and includes a backside Illumination (BSI) imaging sensor having an at least 2.3 megapixel imaging array of photosensors. The BSI imaging sensor has a quantum efficiency of at least 22% for near-infrared light having a wavelength of 940 nm. A near-infrared illumination source is accommodated by the mirror head. The mirror reflective element and the megapixel camera and the near-infrared illumination source move in tandem with the mirror head when the mirror head is adjusted by a driver of a vehicle. The megapixel camera views at least the eyes of the driver of the vehicle. The near-infrared illumination source, when powered to emit near-infrared light, illuminates at least the eyes of the driver of the vehicle.

Abstract: A multiview display and a method of multiview display operation employ an array of light valves having a repeating plurality of color sub-pixels and an array of multibeam emitters providing directional light beams. The array of light valves having the repeating plurality of color sub-pixels is configured to modulate the directional light beams as color pixels of views of a multiview image. A first multibeam emitter and a second multibeam emitter of the multibeam emitter array are offset from one another with respect to the array of light valves. The offset is configured to direct to a color pixel of the multiview image a modulated directional light beam from each of the first multibeam emitter and the second multibeam emitter having an equivalent angular direction relative to one another. The equivalent angular direction may mitigate color fringing within the color pixel.

Abstract: An optical stack includes a substrate, a radio-wave anti-reflection sheet configured to reduce reflection from the optical stack of radio waves at a predetermined operating frequency, and a visible light reflective, infrared light transmissive multilayer optical film disposed between the radio-wave anti-reflection sheet and the substrate. For radiation substantially normally incident on the radio-wave anti-reflection sheet and for a first frequency range at least 20 GHz wide, centered on the predetermined operating frequency, and disposed between about 1 GHz and about 120 GHz, a return loss of the optical stack is asymmetric about the predetermined operating frequency in the first frequency range. The optical stack has a largest return loss S11L in the first frequency range of less than −10 dB and a difference between the largest return loss S11L and a smallest return loss S11S in the first frequency range is less than about 2 dB.

Abstract: A method of controlling tint of a tintable window to account for occupant comfort in a room of a building. The tintable window is between the interior and exterior of the building. The method predicts a tint level for the tintable window at a future time based on a penetration depth of direct sunlight through the tintable window into the room at the future time and space type in the room. The method also provides instructions over a network to transition tint of the tintable window to the tint level.
