Abstract: A vehicle battery charger and a vehicle battery charging system are described and illustrated, and can include a controller enabling a user to enter a time of day at which the vehicle battery charger or system begins and/or ends charging of the vehicle battery. The vehicle battery charger can be separate from the vehicle, can be at least partially integrated into the vehicle, can include a transmitter and/or a receiver capable of communication with a controller that is remote from the vehicle and vehicle charger, and can be controlled by a user or another party (e.g., a power utility) to control battery charging based upon a time of day, cost of power, or other factors.

Abstract: A battery system includes: a power detector that detects output power from an external power source; a charging mechanism that charges a main battery by external power; a temperature raising mechanism that raises a temperature of the main battery to a temperature not lower than a reference temperature; and a controller that controls the charging mechanism and the temperature raising mechanism, wherein when the detected output power is lower than a reference power, the controller prohibits a temperature raising process with an SOC of the main battery lower than a charge reference value and performs a charging process.

Abstract: A battery controller that controls a battery for supplying power to a load apparatus, includes a current detection unit that detects a discharge current and a charge current of the battery, a malfunction detection unit that detects malfunction of a voltage detector for detecting a voltage of the battery, and a contactor control unit that is provided on a power supply line through which the discharge current and the charge current flow to open/close a contactor. The contactor control unit integrates the charge and discharge current when the malfunction of the voltage detector is detected, calculates an actual charge current amount obtained by subtracting an integrated value of the discharge current from an integrated value of the charge current, and prohibits charging/discharging of the battery by controlling the contactor when the actual charge current amount is equal to or more than a predetermined value.

Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a bi-directional inverter of a vehicle. The bi-directional inverter may include an alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) inverter configured to receive AC power from a power grid and generate DC power on a DC bus operatively coupled to a vehicle battery. The bi-directional inverter may also include a DC to AC inverter configured to receive DC power from the DC bus and generate AC power delivered to the power grid. The bi-directional inverter may also include an energy management system operatively coupled to the AC to DC inverter and the DC to AC inverter and configured to selectively operate the bi-directional inverter in a charging mode or a generation mode. Additionally, the bi-directional inverter may include a power line communications (PLC) coupler configured to transfer electronic data between the energy management system and a power plant network through the power grid.

Abstract: A method of communication between a power supply station and an electric vehicle is provided. In the method, the electric vehicle prepares a first information represented by a numerical value to be transmitted to the power supply station and transmits the first information by causing an AC power, which the electric vehicle draws from the power supply station, to have a current value corresponding to the first information based on a predetermined correspondence relationship. The power supply station receives the first information based on a magnitude of the current drawn by the electric vehicle and the first predetermined correspondence relationship.

Abstract: Some embodiments include apparatuses to fulfill customer orders comprising a motorized transport unit; a product pick unit (PPU) that cooperate with the motorized transport unit; a wireless communication network; and a central computer system configured to communicate with the multiple motorized transport units and the plurality of product pick units, and comprises a control circuit and memory storing instructions executed to cause the control circuit to: communicate an instruction to the motorized transport unit and direct the motorized transport unit to transport the product pick unit to a determined first location within the shopping facility proximate to where a first product having been ordered is located; and communicate an instruction to the product pick unit cooperated with the motorized transport unit and direct the product pick unit to retrieve the first product.

Abstract: A distributed energy management method and system 100 are disclosed for managing a charge rate of an array of EVSEs 140 that share a common power source. In the disclosed method and system, control of the power sharing is distributed at the individual EVSE level. For example, each EVSE includes a communication device 540 and a controller 530. The communication device is used to receive a signal relating to a present current capacity utilization of the shared circuit, such as an indication of availability or unavailability of current capacity on the shared circuit. The controller is configured to generate a variable update interval, and initiate adjustment of the charge rate of the EVSE according to the variable update interval based on the present current capacity utilization as indicated by the received signal.

Abstract: A central computer system is configured to simultaneously task various ones of a plurality of motorized transport units to temporarily attach to a corresponding mobile item container and to move the temporarily-attached mobile item container in a retail shopping facility in correspondence to the movement of an authorized consumer while also receiving and analyzing video input provided by video cameras that are included with at least some of the motorized transport units to identify security and safety anomalies in the retail shopping facility. By one approach, the central computer system identifies security and safety anomalies in the retail shopping center by characterizing contents of images as being either expected or unexpected and as being either potentially harmful or not potentially harmful. So configured the central computer system is able to not only identify anomalies but assess a degree of threat posed by a given anomaly.
