Abstract: Platforms for enzymatic assays for biomarkers, including systems, methods, and measuring devices by which a biomarker, such as creatinine, is measured using a small amount of biological fluid, such as blood, plasma, or serum. The measuring device or biosensor can be a test strip including a layered active component assembly positioned between two outer layers which enables multi-step enzymatic reactions operating in kinetic and/or endpoint (in which the reaction is allowed to near completion), and generally includes multiple layers with primary enzyme(s), coupling enzyme(s), and reagents to produce an optical signal correlated to the concentration of a biomarker in the sample. The test strip can be read using a portable optical reader coupled to a smart phone or tablet.

Abstract: Methods for identifying a patient who is eligible for an intensification of heart failure therapy are disclosed. Furthermore, methods for optimizing B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and/or N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP)-type peptide guided heart failure therapy are disclosed. The methods are based on the measurement of the level of at least one marker in a sample from a patient who has heart failure and who receives B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and/or N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP)-type peptide guided heart failure therapy. Further described are kits and devices adapted to carry out the described methods.

Abstract: The present invention includes a method for examining the progression of chronic kidney disease in a subject. The method includes measuring the creatinine concentration in the blood and urine of the subject and the phosphorus concentration in the urine. Next, an estimate for the phosphorous concentration in the primary urine on the basis of Formula (II):
ePTFp
=
Up
Ucr
×
Scr

)
is calculated, followed by comparing the estimate for the phosphorus concentration in the primary urine with the phosphorus concentration in the primary urine of a normal subject. Another aspect of the invention relates to a method for suppressing the progression of chronic kidney disease in a non-human mammal subject.-

Abstract: The present invention concerns the field of diagnostics. Specifically, it relates to a method for assessing a subject with suspected infection comprising the steps of determining the amount of a first biomarker in a sample of the subject, said first biomarker being PCT, determining the amount of a second biomarker in a sample of the subject, wherein said second biomarker is selected from the group consisting of: a cardiac Troponin, Creatinine, a BNP-type peptide, sTREM1, ESM-1, Haptoglobin, Heparin binding protein (HBP) and Aspartate aminotransferase, comparing the amounts of the biomarkers to references for said biomarkers and/or calculating a score for assessing the subject with suspected infection based on the amounts of the biomarkers, and assessing said subject based on the comparison and/or the calculation. The invention also relates to the use of a first biomarker being PCT and a second biomarker selected from the group consisting of: a cardiac Troponin, Creatinine, a BNP-type peptide, sTREM1, ESM-1, Haptoglobin, Heparin binding protein (HBP) and Aspartate aminotransferase, or a detection agent specifically binding to said first biomarker and a detection agent specifically binding to said second biomarker for assessing a subject with suspected infection. Moreover, the invention further relates to a computer-implemented method for assessing a subject with suspected infection and a device and a kit for assessing a subject with suspected infection.

Abstract: An electrochemically active, creatinine-binding device is provided to detect and measure quantitatively, creatinine in biological samples. The device of the present invention is also provided with a device to detect and measure quantitatively creatinine and albumin bioanalytes, simultaneously and to determine albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR). The present invention also provides an electrochemically active, creatinine-binding and albumin-binding device, for collection and retention of biological samples, having creatinine and albumin bioanalytes. In the present invention, a device holder is provided to receive the electrochemically active, creatinine-binding and albumin-binding device. The device, point-of-care biosensor and the method of the present invention, facilitate quantitative measurement of creatinine and albumin bioanalytes in urine and blood samples, and albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR), in urine samples, electrochemically, by determining redox current values.

Abstract: Systems and methods for tracking healing progress of multiple adjacent wounds are provided. In one embodiment, a system may include a processor configured to receive a first image of a plurality of adjacent wounds near a form of colorized surface having colored reference elements, determine colors of the plurality of wounds, correct for local illumination conditions, receive a second image of the plurality of wounds near the form of colorized surface, to determine second colors of the plurality of wounds in the second image, match each of the plurality of wounds in the second image to a wound of the plurality of wounds in the first image, and determine an indicator of the healing progress for each of the plurality of wounds based on changes between the first image and the second image.
