Abstract:
Pyrrole compounds are produced by contacting a furan compound, a solid acid catalyst, and water to form a reaction mixture containing a γ-dicarbonyl compound, and then contacting the γ-dicarbonyl compound with ammonia or an ammonium salt to form a reaction product mixture containing the pyrrole compound. A representative pyrrole compound that can be synthesized using these processes is 2,5-dimethylpyrrole.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for preparing trioxime derivatives of the formula I in which the substituents R1 and R2 are identical or different and each is cyano, alkyl, haloalkyl or cycloalkyl, and R3 and R4 are identical or different and each is alkyl, haloalkyl, cycloalkyl, alkylcarbonyl or arylalkyl, by the following reaction steps in water without isolation of the intermediates: A) nitrosation of 1,3-diketones of the formula II to give monooximes of the formula III, B) oximation of III with hydroxylamine derivatives of the formula IV H2N—OR3′ IV in which R3′ is hydrogen or a group R3 to give bisoximes of the formula V, C) alkylation of V with alkylating agents or acylation of V with acylating agents to give compounds of the formula VI and D) subsequent oximation of VI with hydroxylamine to give compounds of the formula I.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for preparing 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione, comprising reacting a pivalic acid alkyl ester with pinacolone in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide catalyst using a pivalic acid alkyl ester as a solvent but using no other solvent or reacting them in an amide type or urea type solvent in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide catalyst. Also disclosed is a process for preparing a 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanesione metal complex using the 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione obtained by the above process. The process for preparing 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione is an industrially advantageous process in which an alkali metal alkoxide that is easy to handle can be used-as a catalyst for preparing 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione from a pivalic acid alkyl ester and pinacolone.

Disclosed is a method for the preparation of ketones by a catalytic vapor phase reaction of using reactants such as ketones with carboxylic acids and/or carboxylic acid precursors. An example of such a reaction is that of acetone with pivalic acid over a ceria-alumina catalyst at a temperature of nearly 470.degree. C. to produce pinacolone.
