A vehicle can include a body coupled communication (BCC) sensor. A computer in the vehicle can detect that an occupant of a vehicle is touching a screen of a user device, based on a signal from the BCC sensor. Further, it can be determined whether the occupant is in the position of the vehicle operator. Upon determining that the occupant is in the position of the vehicle operator, a gaze direction of the occupant of the vehicle can be determined while the occupant is touching the screen. A prediction can then be output that occupant attention is directed to the screen based on the gaze direction and the signal from the BCC sensor.

The meter determines and records the maximum lateral horizontal acceleration experienced by a vehicle and occupants while traversing a highway curve. The meter has been extensively tested on rural curves and on entrance and exit and connecting ramps between all types of highways. The process for determining an advisory speed for a curve is described. The advisory speed meter provides accurate, reproducible data for use in determining advisory speeds for highway curves.

The invention is directed to a method of controlling a drive unit of a motor vehicle wherein the drive unit is controlled in dependence upon at least one operating variable. The operating variable is detected with at least first and second measuring devices as first and second quantities, respectively, thereby providing a redundant detection of the operating variable. The two measuring devices are mounted so that they move in synchronism with each other within a predetermined tolerance. The second quantity is checked for a fault utilizing a comparison in the context of the tolerance of the synchronism of movement. A fault without a movement out of the tolerance is detected when the value of the second quantity does not change in correspondence to the value of the first quantity within at least a predetermined value range of the operating variable. The invention is also directed to an arrangement of controlling the drive unit in dependence upon the operating variable.

The housing supports modular attachment of various sensors, receivers, computers, and other electrical components that can be installed, removed, and/or interchanged without disrupting the initial calibration thereof. In a particular embodiment, various internal electrical components of the system are mounted on a tray which can be mounted in, and removed from, the housing without disrupting the initial calibration of the various sensors. In a more particular embodiment, the housing includes a plurality of removable panels and windows that provide access to the inside of the housing.

The method includes (i) receiving from the LIDAR sensor a first dataset having a plurality of first data points representative of respective coordinates and associated with respective normal vectors, (ii) determining an uncertainty parameter for a given first data point based on a normal covariance of the normal vector of the given first data point where the normal covariance takes into account a measurement error of the LIDAR sensor when determining the respective coordinates of the given first data point, (iii) in response to the uncertainty parameter being above a pre-determined threshold, excluding the given first data point from the plurality of first data points, (iv) using the filtered plurality of first data points, instead of the plurality of first data points, for merging the first dataset of the LIDAR sensor with a second dataset of the LIDAR sensor.
