Abstract: An apparatus and method of manufacturing a thermoplastic tube-to-tube-sheet joint is disclosed. The method provides at least one tube-sheet having a first aperture and a plurality of holes. Further, the at least one tube-sheet fixes into a welding fixture using a plurality of bolts through the holes. The welding fixture has a second aperture. The method inserts a tubular member within the first aperture and the second aperture and fills an adequate molten workpiece material, using an FSW process, in a clearance gap between the tubular member and the at least one tube-sheet. The apparatus includes at least one tube-sheet having a first aperture, a welding fixture having a second aperture, a tubular member inserted into the at least one tube-sheet, and an adequate molten workpiece material, using the FSW process, is filled in a clearance gap between the tubular member and the at least one tube-sheet.

Abstract: A first thermoplastic component and a second thermoplastic component including a first joint portion and a second joint portion, respectively, are provided. A least a portion of a surface area of each of the first and second joint portions include a respective first and second mating surface. The first and second mating surfaces of the respective first and second joint portions are positioned in contact with one another. The first and second joint portions are fusion joined. Fusion joining the first and second joint portions forms a fused unitary portion of the first and second thermoplastic components.

Abstract: The first electrode section (7a) and the second electrode section (7b) are formed such that the outer portion connected to the upper portion of the heating section (6) is thinner than the inner portion connected to the lower portion of the heating section (6). The heating section (6) and the first electrode section (7a) are interconnected by an R-shaped first connecting portion (21). The inner circumferential sloping surface of the heating section (6) and the second electrode section (7b) are interconnected by an R-shaped second connecting portion (22). The first and second connecting portions (21)(22) are formed such that R becomes larger from the upper end to the lower end, where the upper portion is thin and the lower portion is thick. The thickness of an intermediate portion (6b) is smaller than the thicknesses of the first and second connecting portions (21)(22).

Abstract: A flexible container incorporating flexible front and rear sheets with a perimeter seal in which at least one length or section of the perimeter seal can include a seal weld that has both a permanent seal section and a pressure absorbing seal section. The pressure absorbing seal section is configured to peel, fail, or split when the flexible container, filled with a solution or liquid, is dropped onto a hard surface to thereby absorb the impact of the drop. The flexible container can be provided with one or more dispensing and/or additive ports or without any port. The flexible container may include more than one compartments with a peelable seal separating two adjoining compartments of the flexible container.

Abstract: An ultrasonic sealing apparatus for paper packages achieves more stable ultrasonic sealing by cooling the horn during ultrasonic sealing which would otherwise be unstable due to heat imparted to a horn by continuous sealing. An end portion of a horn of a casing that includes the horn and a converter, or the horn, a booster and the converter is cooled by supplying air to a frame portion exposed toward an anvil side.

Abstract: A method of fusing without contact the ends of thermoplastic filaments grouped together to form at least two tufts. The method steps include providing at least two tufts of thermoplastic filaments arranged at a distance to each other, providing a heating plate at least partly made from a conductive material and structured to have at least two heating sectors separated from one another by at least one separation sector arranged for emitting at least less thermal radiation then the heating sectors, each of the heating sectors having conductive material and a heating surface corresponding in shape and position to the shape and position of the ends of the tufts, exposing the ends of the tufts to the heating plate such that the tuft ends and the heating sectors are aligned with each other, and generating an electric-current flow through the heating sectors so that the heating surfaces of the heating sectors emit thermal radiation that is absorbed by the ends of the filaments, whereby the ends of the filaments melt and the filaments of each tuft are fused together.

For example, certain systems and methods described use weld quality monitoring as feedback to an ultrasonic welding process to improve weld quality. Still other systems and methods provide improvement to double sided and single sided ultrasonic welding through the use of selected multiple pulses.
