摘要: A technology related to a power amplifier used in a wireless communication circuit is disclosed. A radio frequency (RF) power amplifier includes a plurality of unit differential amplifiers of which inputs are connected to a common input terminal and outputs are connected to a common adder, and having a gain of a weight of a corresponding bit of a binary gain control word. Each of the differential amplifiers may be configured as a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) differential cascode amplifier. In addition, the RF power amplifier may include a structure in which a plurality of attenuators of the same structure are cascade-connected so that an attenuation rate may be linearly and digitally controlled and an output of each attenuator is connected to an output adder through differential buffers of which turn-on and turn-off are controlled by a controller.

摘要: A current feed-back instrumentation amplifier (CFIA) comprises a differential pair with degeneration for amplifying small differential voltages in the presence of large common-mode voltages. The CFIA includes input and feedback transconductors and a trimming circuit that trims the back-bias voltages of the transistors in each transconductor. The trimming circuit includes a plurality of selectable resistors disposed in the signal path of the tail current in each transconductor. Each of the plurality of selectable resistors has a switch coupled to it. When a switch is closed, only the resistors up to the respective switch are in the signal path of the bulk-to-source voltage of the differentially paired transistors. The resistor trimming circuit reduces the mismatch between transconductances of the respective differential pair transistors, in turn reducing mismatch of the overall transconductances of the transconductors, and thereby reducing the CFIA's gain error.

摘要: A current feed-back instrumentation amplifier (CFIA) comprises a differential pair with degeneration for amplifying small differential voltages in the presence of large common-mode voltages. The CFIA includes input and feedback transconductors and a chopping modulator circuit that continuously swaps tail current sources between the transconductors. This tail current swapping reduces the contribution to the CFIA's gain error caused by random mismatch between the tail currents of the input and feedback transconductors. The modulator circuit operates on a clock cycle to periodically swap the tail current sources. As a result, even if the tail currents are mismatched, on average the tail currents (transconductor gains) will approximately equal out, and the contribution of the tail current difference to the gain error is canceled out.

摘要: Systems and methods for switching on and off a power amplifier including a signal input receiving an input signal and a signal output providing an output signal. The power amplifier includes a control input receiving a gain control signal indicating a requested gain and a control input receiving a mute control signal indicating whether the signal output should be switched on or switched off. A control unit determines whether the signal output of the power amplifier should be switched on and/or off, and if switched on receives data identifying a switch-on ramp and if switched off receives data identifying a switch-off ramp. The control unit generates the mute control signal to switch on the signal output of the power amplifier on or off, and generates the gain control signal as a function of the data identifying the switch-on or switch-off ramp to thereby increase or decrease the gain control signal.

摘要: Systems, methods and apparatus for efficient power control of an RF amplifier for amplification of a constant envelope RF signal are described. A reduction in a size of a pass device of an LDO regulator is obtained by removing the pass device of the LDO regulator from a main current conduction path of the RF amplifier. Power control is provided by varying one or more gate voltages to cascoded transistors of a transistor stack of the RF amplifier according to a power control voltage. Various configurations for controlling the gate voltages are presented by way of a smaller size LDO regulator or by completely removing the LDO regulator. In a case where a supply voltage to the transistor stack varies, such as in a case of a battery, a compensation circuit is used to adjust the power control voltage in view of a variation of the supply voltage, and therefore null a corresponding drift in output power of the RF amplifier.

The loop gain control voltage generation circuit minimizes a loop gain of the operational amplifier when starting up the regulator.

摘要: A method of increasing a current flowing through an inductor includes receiving an input signal with a driver stage, the driver stage including the inductor coupled in series with a loading between an output node of the driver stage and a power line. In response to a transition in the input signal from a first voltage state to a second voltage state, a first current flowing through the loading and the inductor is increased. During the transition in the input signal, the current flowing through the inductor is increased by increasing a second current in a circuitry though a node between the inductor and the loading.
