Abstract: A co-rotating twin screw extruder for forming fragments is disclosed. The extruder comprises of an intake zone for receiving one or more excipient(s) suitable for oral dosage or one or more excipient(s) suitable for oral dosage along with one or more active pharmaceutical ingredient, a melt zone for softening at least one excipient to form a viscous mass or melt and a fragmenting zone for fragmenting and cooling the viscous mass into cooled fragments and an extruder outlet for recovering the cooled fragments from the extruder.

Abstract: A method of operating an extruder assembly to form a three-dimensional build object forms a build object quickly, with enhanced feature resolution, and with increased structural strength. The method includes positioning with at least one actuator an extruder having at least one opening defining an extrusion area through which build material can be extruded through the at least one opening. The extruder is positioned to cover a first portion of the extrusion area with a portion of an object supported on a build platen and to leave open a second portion of the extrusion area. The method further includes extruding a first continuous ribbon of build material adjacent to the object through the second portion of the extrusion area while moving the extruder along the object with the at least one actuator.

Abstract: Barrier films are prepared from a blend of two high density polyethylene blend components and a high performance organic nucleating agent. The two high density polyethylene blend components have substantially different melt indices. Large reductions in the moisture vapor transmission rate of the film are observed in the presence of the nucleating agent when the melt indices of the two blend components have a ratio of greater than 10/1. The resulting barrier films are suitable for the preparation of packaging for dry foods such as crackers and breakfast cereals.

Abstract: Novel absorbable polymer blends are disclosed. The blends are useful for manufacturing medical devices having engineered degradation and breaking strength retention in vivo. The blends consist of a first absorbable polymeric component and a second absorbable polymeric component. The weight average molecular weight of the first polymeric component is higher than the weight average molecular weight of the second polymeric component. At least at least one of said components is at least partially end-capped by a carboxylic acid group. Further aspects are medical devices made therefrom.

Abstract: A uniquely featured addition to previous three dimensional prototyping machinery without any traversing X and Y coordinate moving parts, thus saving time by focusing on only an incrementally regular Z stage and the rapidity of chemical deposition via electrically localized reaction nodes through a porous/channeled plane called the build/extrusion platen. Processes for making objects using such machine and platen are also disclosed as well as features and further indexing of extrusion location inventions. Other features including chemistry, curing material, and curing control as well as activation methods and machines are also disclosed in combination with the feature of a simultaneous two-dimensional layer-wise deposition machine and process for “growing” the object in the Z direction using the displaceable platen or object supporting stage in a rapid manner. Further due to the rapid growth and deposition manner, additional benefits to the object creation and curable material, e.g. a monomer can be realized.
