Abstract: The present invention is directed to polyethylene-based compositions suitable for packaging applications, films, and articles. The polyethylene-based composition according to embodiments disclosed herein includes a polyethylene composition having a first polyethylene fraction and a second polyethylene fraction as well as a calcium salt of 1,2-cyclohexanedicarbodylic acid. The polyethylene-based composition can deliver a balance of properties, including barrier properties, for packaging applications.

Abstract: A biodegradable bioplastic may be formed from starch or cellulose. A carbohydrate may be reacted with chloroacetamide and further reacted with one or more cross-linking agents to obtain a bioplastic material. The bioplastic material may be insoluble in water, and/or hydrophobic and/or substantially transparent. The bioplastic material may be formed into numerous shapes and structures. The bioplastic material may have high toughness, flexibility and/or moldability whereby the material is suitable for further processing into a wide variety of different shapes and structures. The bioplastic material may also be utilized as a barrier or coating on paper or other substrates for food packaging and other applications.

Abstract: The invention provides a polyolefin-based resin film including a polyolefin-based resin composition that includes at least a propylene-α olefin random copolymer, wherein (1) an olefin-based block copolymer is 0 to 2 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the propylene-α olefin random copolymer; (2) an olefin-based copolymeric elastomer resin is 0 to 2 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the propylene-α olefin random copolymer; (3) a propylene homopolymer is 0 to 40 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the propylene-α olefin random copolymer; (4) the polyolefin-based resin film exhibits a thermal shrinkage rate of 25% or less in a direction in which the thermal shrinkage rate is larger between a longitudinal direction and a lateral direction; and (5) a planar orientation coefficient ΔP calculated from a refractive index of the polyolefin-based resin film is 0.0100-0.0145.

Abstract: A flexible conduit used for transportation of hydrocarbon fluids for off-shore and on-shore oil and gas applications includes an inner pressure sheath, at least one reinforcing layer at least partially disposed around the pressure sheath, an outer protective sheath at least partially disposed around the at least one reinforcing layer, and optionally a thermally insulating layer disposed between the at least one reinforcing layer and the outer protective sheath. At least one of the inner pressure sheath, outer protective sheath, and the thermally insulating layer is manufactured using a thermoplastic blend (TPB) composition. The TPB compositions disclosed herein are useful for the formation of at least one polymer layer of the thermoplastic umbilical hoses used for transportation of hydrocarbon fluids.

Abstract: Provided are: a gas barrier resin composition having sufficient long-run workability and superior gas barrier properties which compare favorably to those of fossil fuel-derived resins, while containing a biomass-derived raw material; a multilayer structure in which the gas barrier resin is used; and a method for producing such a gas barrier resin composition. The gas barrier resin composition contains at least one type of saponified ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer, wherein of ethylene and a vinyl ester, which are raw materials of the at least one type of saponified ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer, a part is derived from biomass, and a remainder is derived from a fossil fuel.

Abstract: A coating composition includes an aqueous carrier medium, at least a first polymer, and polymeric core-shell particles dispersed in the aqueous carrier medium. The first polymer includes: (i) a barrier segment having aromatic groups and urethane linkages, urea linkages, or a combination thereof; and (ii) an elastomeric segment having a glass transition temperature of less than 0° C. The barrier segment can make up at least 30% of the first polymer, based on the total solids weight of the first polymer.

Abstract: Two-component epoxy-based liquid formulations and their resultant dual use epoxy-based products. Abstract: A method of preparing an aesculin sturgeon skin gelatin with antioxidant activity and Enterococcus faecalis detection ability includes: 1) mixing a sturgeon skin gelatin and distilled water in a ratio of 1:15-1:25 (w/v) at 50-70° C. and filtering to obtain a sturgeon skin gelatin solution; 2) adding aesculin and a glycerin solution to the sturgeon skin gelatin solution, stirring the resulted sturgeon skin gelatin solution at 30-50° C. for 30 minutes, and filtering; and 3) removing air bubbles from the sturgeon skin gelatin solution of step 2) under reduced pressure, placing the sturgeon skin gelatin solution on an acrylic glass, and drying the sturgeon skin gelatin solution at in a vented oven 25° C. and 45-55% relative humidity for 24 hours to obtain the aesculin sturgeon skin gelatin film.

Abstract: Barrier films are prepared from a blend of two high density polyethylene blend components and a high performance organic nucleating agent. The two high density polyethylene blend components have substantially different melt indices. Large reductions in the moisture vapor transmission rate of the film are observed in the presence of the nucleating agent when the melt indices of the two blend components have a ratio of greater than 10/1. The resulting barrier films are suitable for the preparation of packaging for dry foods such as crackers and breakfast cereals.
