Abstract: Method of manufacturing an integral thermoset infused fibre reinforced composite, structural stator vane ring for a core inlet, a bypass duct, or an air intake of a gas turbine engine. The method comprises winding fibre reinforcement material around a mandrel to form an inner annulus preform; providing a plurality of vane preforms comprising fibre reinforcement material, arranging the plurality of vane preforms around the inner annulus preform, and connecting each of the plurality of vane preforms to the inner annulus preform using a fibre jointing method; winding fibre reinforcement material around the plurality of vane preforms to form an outer annulus preform and connecting the outer annulus preform to each of the plurality of vane preforms using a fibre jointing method to produce a stator vane ring preform; and infusing a thermoset resin into the stator vane ring preform and curing the resin to form the integral stator vane ring.

Abstract: A method for improving the impact resistance of a fiber-composite part includes positioning fibers within an expected impact region of the part, wherein at least a portion of most of the positioned fibers is oriented to be within about 45 degrees of parallel to an impact vector of an impact that occurs at the impact region. At least some of the fibers in the impact region should have relatively high impact resistance, such as glass fiber or aramid fiber, and the matrix in the impact region should have relatively high impact resistance.

Abstract: A tie rod suitable for use with known concrete forming systems is constructed from a non-metal fiber, such as fiberglass, that is wound about a pair of opposed thimble elements. The resultant tie rod is as strong as a metal tie rod without the drawbacks of conventional metal tie rods. Abstract: The invention provides a method for preparing a fiber-reinforced part based on cyanate ester or a cyanate ester/epoxy blend, comprising the steps of (i) providing a liquid mixture comprising (a) from 15 to 99.9 wt. % of at least one di- or polyfunctional cyanate ester, (b) from 0 to 84.9 wt. % of at least one di- or polyfunctional epoxy resin, and (c) from 0.1 to 25 wt. % of a metal-free catalyst; (ii) providing a fiber structure (iii) placing said fiber structure in a mold or in a substrate, (iv) impregnating said fiber structure with said liquid mixture, (v) curing said liquid mixture by applying a temperature of 30 to 300° C. Using the method of the invention it is possible to produce in a short cycle time, using composite manufacturing processes such as resin transfer molding and infusing technology, fiber reinforced composite parts based on a cyanate ester or cyanate ester/epoxy resin formulation. The fiber-reinforced parts obtainable by the above method are also an object of the invention.
