摘要: Tumor resection is commonly practiced to prevent the progression of cancer. However, there are post-surgery concerns including the formation of a void that can allow cancer cells to escape at the surgery site, which increases the risk of metastasis. To counter this challenge, an embodiment includes a polyurethane-based shape memory foam as a tissue void-filling device that can also release anti-cancer drugs. Such foams may activate at body temperature and become malleable. Such properties may enable the foam to be shaped to precisely seal the tissue void and then serve as a drug-eluting device. Based on the drug composition with poly vinyl alcohol (PVA), the drug release profile from the foam may be altered depending on the application.

摘要: Hard-tissue implants are provided that include a bulk implant, a face, pillars, slots, and at least one support member. The pillars are for contacting a hard tissue. The slots are to be occupied by the hard tissue. The at least one support member is for contacting the hard tissue. The hard-tissue implant has a Young's modulus of elasticity of at least 3 GPa, and has a ratio of the sum of (i) the volumes of the slots to (ii) the sum of the volumes of the pillars and the volumes of the slots of 0.40:1 to 0.90:1. Methods of making and using hard-tissue implants are also provided.

摘要: A nasal tissue implant for reconstruction and tissue engineering of nasal tissue in a subject includes a tissue scaffold component comprising a biocompatible polymeric material having a plurality of open pores configured to support cell growth. The tissue scaffold component conforms to a portion of the subject's nasal region and defines at least a portion of the subject's nasal anatomy. A method of making an implantable nasal tissue implant for reconstructing a portion of a nasal anatomy of a human or other animal subject is also provided that includes laser sintering or three-dimensional (3D) printing a biocompatible polymeric material to form a tissue scaffold component comprising a biocompatible polymeric material having a plurality of open pores configured to support cell growth. Again, the tissue scaffold component substantially conforms to a nasal region specific to the human or other animal subject.
