Abstract: A soft tissue device can incorporate a composite material comprising a gel and at least one nanostructure disposed within the gel. A soft tissue device can further incorporate biologically active materials such as cells, tissues. A method for healing a soft tissue defect while promoting soft tissue regeneration can include applying a soft tissue device to a soft tissue defect, wherein the composite material includes a gel and a nanostructure disposed within the gel. A method for manufacturing a soft tissue device for use in healing soft tissue defects can include providing a gel, disposing nanofibers within the gel, and a biologically active material.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a polymeric system for release of an active agent, comprising a first polymeric phase containing the active agent, the first polymeric phase forming discrete regions of a set size range and being dispersed within a second polymeric phase comprising a cross-linked polymer-phenol conjugate for release of the active agent therein. The present disclosure further provides an injectable hydrogel comprising the disclosed polymeric system, a carrier for delivering a biologically active substance or a drug comprising the injectable hydrogel, and a method for producing the disclosed polymeric system.

Abstract: Provided herein is a 3D printing system and related compositions, and method of using such, that can produce a polymeric microfiber having embedded microspheres encapsulating an active agent with micron precision and high spatial and temporal resolution. One aspect of the present disclosure provides a method of forming a biocompatible scaffold. Another aspect provides a method of forming a polymeric fiber having a microencapsulated agent distributed in the polymeric fiber. Another aspect provides a composition including a polymeric microfiber produced by 3D printing.

Abstract: A dressing for treatment of a body part surface of a human or animal patient. The dressing includes a compress with a plurality of loose fill granules contained in an enclosure. The plurality of loose fill granules is configured to deliver moist heat. The dressing also includes antibacterial medication that is activated by the moist heat delivered from the compress and released toward the body part surface. The fill granules substantially retain at least one antimicrobial metal material therein and allow repeated absorption and dissipation of moisture to and from the fill granules.

Abstract: A composition containing biocompatible hydrogel encapsulating mammalian cells and anti-inflammatory drugs is disclosed. The encapsulated cells have reduced fibrotic overgrowth after implantation in a subject. The compositions contain a biocompatible hydrogel having encapsulated therein mammalian cells and anti-inflammatory drugs or polymeric particles loaded with anti-inflammatory drugs. The anti-inflammatory drugs are released from the composition after transplantation in an amount effective to inhibit fibrosis of the composition for at least ten days. Methods for identifying and selecting suitable anti-inflammatory drug-loaded particles to prevent fibrosis of encapsulated cells are also described. Methods of treating a disease in a subject are also disclosed that involve administering a therapeutically effective amount of the disclosed encapsulated cells to the subject.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods of treating an article surface. The method comprises removing a metal oxide surface from the metal substrate to expose a metal surface; and delivering particles comprising a dopant from at least one fluid jet to the metal surface to impregnate the surface of the article with the dopant. The method also comprises delivering substantially simultaneously a first set of particles comprising a dopant and a second set of particles comprising an abrasive from at least one fluid jet to a surface of an article to impregnate the surface of the article with the dopant.

Abstract: An antimicrobial composition and methods of use are provided. This antimicrobial composition includes a water-soluble organosilane (3-(trihydroxysilyl) propyldimethyloctadecyl ammonium chloride) and additional adjuvant compounds, including anti-inflammatory medications, antiseptics, transdermal penetrants, nutrients and/or buffers, generally to be applied in liquid form to penetrate and kill biofilms that are infecting living vertebrates. The methods include topically treating an infection by penetrating and disrupting an existing biofilm and killing cells therein and killing any persister cells that, through degrees of dormancy or otherwise, have escaped being killed during the initial application of the antimicrobial composition.
