Energy-efficient gasification-based multi-generation apparatus, facilities, or systems, and methods of modifying existing gasification-based multi-generation apparatus and the various conventional thermal coupling arrangements, are provided. An exemplary gasification-based multi-generation apparatus includes a gasification system configured to generate the raw syngas feed from a carbon-based feedstock. The gasification system includes a gasification plant or facility, a sour water stripping plant or facility comprising a sour water stripper, a gasification reactor, and a gasification system energy management system. The gasification system energy management system comprises a third gasification system process-to-process heat exchanger unit positioned to receive a wastewater bottom stream from the sour water stripper and to receive at least a portion of an oxygen feed to the gasification reactor to provide heat energy to the at least a second portion of the oxygen feed to the gasification reactor and to cool the wastewater bottom stream from the sour water stripper. The sour water stripping plant or facility is integrated into the gasification plant or facility through at least the wastewater bottom stream from the sour water stripper.

A three-stage quenching and scrubbing system for treatment of hot crude gases and liquid slag after an entrained flow gasification. In the first primary stage, cooling and scrubbing water is injected such that slag can no longer adhere to the wall of the central tube and the conversion reaction of the carbon monoxide with water vapor to give hydrogen can proceed to close to the equilibrium. A secondary quenching and scrubbing stage takes the form of a bubble column, and further cooling and the deposition of coarse dust and slag are effected in a water bath. The rest of the treatment is through intensive spraying in a tertiary quenching and scrubbing the gas stage, nozzle rings for deposition of fine slag and partly of fine dust. All three quenching and scrubbing stages enable cooling of the crude gas down to the water vapor dew point determined by the plant pressure.

A process for the generation of a syngas in an entrained-flow gasification process includes a solid, carbon-containing fuel which is introduced via burners into a reactor which also supplies the oxygen for gasification. The fuel is introduced on a burner level where the burners are arranged concentrically around the reaction chamber or in the head area. The syngas obtained is discharged from the reaction chamber via a discharge nozzle, so that the syngas is passed into a collecting chamber for cooling by addition of low-temperature gaseous, vaporous or liquid cooling agents. A quench chamber is provided between the reactor and the collecting chamber. Additional burner levels are in the quench chamber via which a fuel material of renewable fuels or biofuels is introduced into the syngas, so that the heat enthalpy of the syngas can be utilized for the endothermic gasification reaction of the biological raw material. An apparatus for this generation of synthesis gas includes several burner levels, the renewable fuel being supplied to the gasification chamber with or without water vapor or oxygen and the enthalpy of the hot syngas being utilized for the gasification of the renewable fuel.
