摘要: A cyclized peptide designated BMP Binding Peptide (BBP) is a synthetic peptide that avidly binds rhBMP-2, as do endogenous forms of BBP, and sequence conservation between species results in a variety of useful BBP compositions. BBP increases the over-all osteogenic activity of rhBMP-2, increases the rate at which rhBMP-2 induces bone formation, and BBP induces calcification alone. Compositions and substrates including BBP, and methods of using BBP are useful in therapeutic, diagnostic and clinical applications requiring calcification and osteogenesis.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method for preparing a ceramic powder from a bone of a bird's beak, a method for preparing biomedical or industrial ceramic materials by using the ceramic powder derived from a bone of a bird's beak, and a biomedical or industrial ceramic material prepared by the method thereof. The use of the present ceramic powder for manufacturing biomedical or industrial ceramic materials is safer than the use of the ceramic powder derived from allogenic bone or xenogeneic bone. In addition, the ceramic powder of the present invention can be prepared on a mass production basis. Furthermore, the ceramic material prepared using the ceramic powder of the present invention is more biocompatible than that prepared using artificially synthetic ceramic.

摘要: A bioabsorbable surgical osteosynthesis plate operable to be secured by at least one fastener through at least one fastener opening formed in the plate to a bone. The plate includes a flat section having first and second surfaces defining a main plane of the plate. The plate includes a polymer material that is oriented multiaxially and is substantially rigid and substantially deformable at a first thermochemical state. In the multiaxially oriented structure of the plate the polymer material is arranged according to at least three different orientation axes along the main plane of the plate as a result of solid state drawing of the plate. The polymer material of the plate has isotropic mechanical tear properties in different directions along the main plane of the plate.

摘要: Methods for forming implantable compositions are provided. In some embodiments, the methods include (i) providing a gel base, (ii) adding water and a hydrating agent to the gel base to form a mixture, (iii) reducing the water content of the mixture; and (iv) adding a delivered material before, during, and/or after step (ii) or (iii). The water content is reduced to about 5% or less by weight of the implantable composition.

摘要: The invention proposes an antiseptic composition for use as bone cement, in particular an antiseptic polymethylmethacrylate bone cement, that can be cured and comprises a content of at least one component that is a compound with an oxidizing effect or from which a compound with an oxidizing effect can be released. Preferably, hydrogen peroxide is or can be released. In this context, it is particularly preferred to use an adduct or a salt of hydrogen peroxide that releases hydrogen peroxide in the presence of water or aqueous conditions. The antiseptic polymethylmethacrylate bone cement can be used for mechanical fixation of primary total articular endoprostheses, for mechanical fixation of revision total articular endoprostheses, and for producing spacers.

摘要: The invention relates to biomaterials based on plastics, such as polyaryl polyether ketone (PEK), and to methods for producing and using same. The following describes how a mechanically stable coating made of a porous bone substitute material, e.g. Nano Bone®, is applied to polyaryl polyether ketone (PEK), e.g. polyether ether ketone (PEEK), as a result of which the problem of poor cell adhesion on plastics surfaces of this kind can be solved. The bone substitute material can be applied both dry as a powder and also in a wet spraying method. The coating is a result of briefly melting the polymer surface and the resulting partial penetration of the previously applied layer. In the process, the molten polymer penetrates into nanopores of the bone substitute material and thus establishes a firm connection.

摘要: The present application is directed to the field of scaffolds for tissue engineering. The scaffolds are typically comprised of nanofibers and are optionally biomineralized. The present application provides a process for forming nanofibrous materials via electrospinning and for biomineralizing such materials. The scaffolds of the present application can be biomineralized and contain a plurality of cells either on or within the scaffold, resulting in synthetic, bioresorbable scaffolds that can be used in various biomedical applications, such as for bone regeneration.
