Abstract: Ophthalmic devices having elastic electrodes are disclosed herein. An example ophthalmic device may be an intraocular lens that includes a support structure, two optical windows, two immiscible fluids, and an elastic electrode. The support structure may have an inner surface defining an aperture with first and second optical windows disposed on opposite sides of the support structure and spanning the aperture. The two immiscible liquids may be disposed in a cavity formed by the aperture and the first and second optical windows, and the elastic electrode may be disposed on the inner surface. The elastic electrode may be formed from an elastic metal alloy having a minimum yield strain of 0.25%.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides for compositions, methods of making the composition, and devices (e.g., vascular grafts, self-expandable stents, balloon-expandable stents, and stent-grafts) having the composition disposed thereof. The composition can include a polymer nanoparticle (e.g., charged or uncharged) made of polymers that have one or more types of agents covalently bonded to the polymer. In this regard, the one or more types of agents are not physically encapsulated by the polymer, rather are covalently bonded to the polymer that makes up the polymeric nanoparticle. In another aspect, an agent can also be encapsulated in the polymer of the polymeric nanoparticle. In another embodiment, the composition includes two types of polymeric nanoparticles, where a first polymeric nanoparticle has at least one agent covalently bonded to the polymer of the first polymeric nanoparticle and where the composition can also include a second polymeric nanoparticle encapsulating an agent.

Abstract: A system for treating a patient comprises a delivery device and injectate. The delivery device comprises an elongate shaft with a distal portion and at least one delivery element positioned on the elongate shaft distal portion. The delivery device is constructed and arranged to deliver the injectate through the at least one delivery element and into tissue to create a therapeutic restriction in the gastrointestinal tract. Methods of creating a therapeutic restriction are also provided.

Abstract: There is provided a controlled-release antibiotic socket for securely holding an implantable medical device that is made from: at least one film having at least one polymer layer, where the at least one film is formed into the socket; at least one antibiotic agent; and at least one opening in the socket, where the at least one polymer layer comprises a biodegradable elastomeric polymeric material; and the at least one antibiotic agent is dispersed within at least one of the at least one polymer layers and/or, when the film comprises at least two polymer layers, the at least one antibiotic agent is disposed as a separate layer between two polymer layers. Also disclosed is the film used to make the socket and uses of both the socket and film.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method of making a bioceramic coating on a fibrous article for use in a medical implant, comprising steps of providing an article comprising fibers made from a biocompatible, non-biodegradable polymer; coating at least the fibers that will be in contact with bone upon use as an implant with a solution of a coating polymer to result in coated fibers having a coating polymer layer; treating the coated fibers with a dispersion of bioactive ceramic particles 0.01-10 μm in a treating solvent comprising a solvent for the coating polymer in at least one step; and substantially removing the treating solvent; to result in the particles being partly embedded in the coating polymer layer of the coated fibers.

Abstract: Methods for preparing oriented polymer tubes, such as biodegradable polymer tubes suitable for in vivo use, are provided herein. The disclosed methods provide alternatives to the typical extrusion/expansion methods by which oriented polymeric tubes for such uses are commonly produced. Advantageously, the disclosed methods can provide more homogeneous molecular orientation of crystallizable polymers within the tube walls, which can endow such polymeric tubes with enhanced strength (e.g., resistance to compression) and toughness.
