Abstract: A method for managing a plurality of rechargeable electrical energy storage modules arranged in parallel in an electric vehicle is provided. The method includes: separating the modules into at least two groups; and supplying power from one of the groups at a time. The method also includes a step of replacing a faulty module from a group that is supplying power, known as the active group, with an available module from another group, known as the available group. The invention also relates to a system using such a method and to an electric vehicle using such a method or system.

Abstract: A battery pack (10) includes a plurality of battery cells (100) which are connected in series to each other, a voltage and current measurement unit (voltage and current measurement unit (200)), a temperature measurement unit (temperature measurement unit (300)), and a calculation unit (calculation unit (420)) provided in an arithmetic operation communication unit (400). The calculation unit (420) calculates a “first electric energy balance” of the battery cells (100) on the basis of voltages and currents, determines internal resistances of the battery cells (100) on the basis of the temperatures, and calculates a “second electric energy balance” of the internal resistances on the basis of currents and the internal resistances. Thereby, the calculation unit (420) calculates an “accumulated electric energy balance” (electric energy E(t)) accumulated in the battery cells (100) on the basis of the first electric energy balance of the battery cells (100) and the second electric energy balance of the internal resistances.

Abstract: The current invention discloses a multi-mode electro-mechanical variable speed transmission. The transmission includes an input shaft, an output system, planetary gear set having at least three braches each represents a co-axial rotating member, two electric machines along with the associated controllers for the electric machines, and a clutch. The first branch couples to the first electric machine with a constant speed ratio; the second branch couples to the output system with a constant speed ratio; and the third branch couples to the input shaft with a constant speed ratio; the second electric machine selectively couples to two different the branches of the planetary gear set with two different constant speed ratios, respectively. The multi-mode electro-mechanical variable speed transmission is capable of providing multiple operation modes including two electric drive modes and two power split operation modes. Different operation modes cover different speed ratio regimes and are suitable for different power requirements. At the mode switching point, the corresponding clutch or clutches is automatically synchronized. This avoids shock loads during operation mode switching. The transmission is capable of providing operations with at least a fixed output to input speed ratio.

Abstract: A vehicle includes a power control unit having at least one of an inverter and a converter, a drive motor that produces torque for running the vehicle when electric power is supplied from the power control unit to the drive motor, a vehicle body kept insulated from a road surface, a case main body in which the power control unit is housed, a member that is connected to the case main body where the member is insulated from the case main body, or in a condition in which electric resistance is large, and a static eliminator that neutralizes and eliminates positive charges on the member and lowers a positive potential of the member, by self-discharge for producing negative air ions in outside air according to the positive potential of the member that is electrostatically charged.

Abstract: A method avoids lithium plating of a negative electrode in a battery cell. A voltage level of a positive electrode is determined in an initial battery charging process having a charging power level. A charging rate is modified in response to the determined voltage by increasing or decreasing the charging rate when the voltage is respectively less or greater than a voltage threshold. A charging profile is recorded for the power level. A subsequent charging process at the same power level is controlled using the recorded profile, which is possibly age-indexed to an age of an actual battery used in the subsequent charging process. A system includes the battery cell and a battery cell cycler device programmed to execute the method. An electric machine may be connected to the battery cell and a load, with a controller controlling the subsequent charging process using the profiles.

At least one of the inflection points in the first and second reactor currents, a plurality of switching elements to simultaneously be turned on or and off are controlled to be turned on or off in a prescribed order with a time lag being set. At the inflection point with the time lag being set, a switching loss is produced in a switching element turned on later or a switching element turned on earlier in accordance with the prescribed order.

Abstract: A battery module includes a lithium ion secondary battery and a control circuit. The control circuit includes a measurement unit which measures voltage, current, and the time of charge/discharge of the lithium ion secondary battery; an operation unit which calculates a capacity based on the voltage, the current, and the time and calculates a differential value dQ/dV by differentiating the capacity with a voltage; a threshold voltage setting unit which specifies a peak of a low capacity side of the differential value dQ/dV generated on the basis of a stage structure of graphite and sets a voltage at the peak to a threshold voltage; a cutoff voltage setting unit which sets a discharge cutoff voltage of the lithium ion secondary battery on the basis of the threshold voltage; and a charge/discharge control unit which controls charge/discharge of the lithium ion secondary battery on the basis of the discharge cutoff voltage.
