Abstract: There is provided a wireless end-user device configured to assign one of classifications to each of end-user applications to allow for a differential network access control of the end-user applications. The classifications include a background classification and a foreground classification. The differential network access control includes a service usage control policies applicable when a network service is available via a wireless modem, the service usage control policies including a first policy that allows data associated with a first end-user application of the end-user applications to be communicated via the wireless modem, and a second policy that defers the data associated with the first end-user application to be communicated via the wireless modem until a state change occurs. The wireless end-user device is configured to dynamically select from the service usage control policies based on whether the background classification or the foreground classification is assigned to the first end-user application.

Abstract: A computer device may include a memory configured to store instructions and a processor configured to execute the instructions to determine a service requirement for a client device connected to a WiFi access point in a customer premises network that includes a plurality of WiFi access points. The processor may be further configured to monitor a service requirement parameter, associated with the determined service requirement, for the client device; detect that the service requirement parameter is within a threshold of the determined service requirement; and perform a self-organizing network (SON) action on the customer premises network, in response to detecting that the service requirement parameter is within the threshold of the determined service requirement.

Abstract: A method and a callback notification system (CNS) are provided for sending a missed call ring alert (MCRA) from a source number to a destination number. The CNS receives communication information from a calling party device (CGPD) or a network thereof, when an unsuccessful communication attempt is made by the CGPD to contact a called party device (CDPD), and places a call to the destination number with an identification of an originator of the call as the source number using the communication information. The CNS identifies a ring of the CDPD when the call successfully reaches the destination number and terminates the call before chargeable completion of the call, thereby sending an MCRA from the source number of the CGPD to the destination number of the CDPD. The CNS sends one or more alternative callback notifications to the destination number, concurrently with the MCRA or if the MCRA is unsuccessful.

Abstract: A wireless communication device associated with a mobile operator network transmits an authentication request for network access via a wireless access point (AP) using a transceiver other than the cellular network transceiver. Device authentication can occur directly with the mobile operator network or via a proxy server. Upon authentication, the requesting device may access a wide area network in a data off-load operational mode and the data flow to and from the device via the AP is monitored and reported to mobile operator network associated with the requesting device. The wireless communication device can communicate with any of a plurality of APs distributed in a venue during the data off-load operational mode.

Abstract: A wireless end-user device has wireless wide-area network (WWAN) and wireless local-area network (WLAN) modems. One or more processors associate each of a plurality of Internet access requests with a corresponding destination address. The processors apply a differential traffic control policy to at least some of the Internet access requests, based on the corresponding destination address and whether or not that destination address is covered by a differential traffic control policy list. For one of the modems, the list treatment of a destination address determines whether an Internet access request is allowed or disallowed. For the other modem, the list treatment does not cause that same destination address to cause an Internet access request to be disallowed.

Abstract: Systems and methods for redirecting calls are provided herein. In some embodiments, a method for redirecting calls may include receiving a first call request from a first user device via a first telephony service provider network to establish an off-net call with a second user device registered on a second telephony service provider network, determining that the first user device is associated with an account of the second telephony service provider network based on a communication identifier of the first user device included in the first call request, and sending a notification message to the first user device indicating that the off-net call may be established as an on-net call over the second telephony service provider network.

Abstract: A wireless end-user device can communicate data using a home network or a roaming network. The device stores a network service usage activity classification list that indicates which of a plurality of background data traffic policies to apply respectively to each of a plurality of applications resident on the device. A processor on the device determines which type of network the device currently connects through, and whether a particular application is currently operating as a background application. According to the applicable policy, a given application operating in the background may be allowed to perform network service usage activities on both network types, on only one of the network types, or on neither of the network types.
