Abstract: Disclosed is a process for preparing a thermoplastic polymer foam. The process includes providing a molten foamable composition including a thermoplastic polymer and a blowing agent. The blowing agent includes from about 2.0 to about 7.0 parts by weight per hundred resin of the thermoplastic polymer (phr) of 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene (HFO-1336mzz) and from about 0.73 to about 15.37 phr of methyl formate. At least 50%, by weight, of the HFO-1336mzz is E-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene (E-HFO-1336mzz). The thermoplastic polymer is a polystyrene homopolymer, a polystyrene copolymer, a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer, a polyethylene, a polypropylene, or a blend thereof. The process also includes extruding the molten foamable composition to produce the thermoplastic polymer foam. The thermoplastic polymer foam has a plurality of cells with at least 80% of the cells being closed cells. The thermoplastic polymer foam is essentially free of structural defects. A thermoplastic polymer foam includes a thermoplastic polymer and a blowing agent.

Abstract: A process is provided comprising extruding a molten composition comprising thermoplastic polymer comprising polystyrene and blowing agent comprising Z-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene (Z-HFO-1336mzz) under the conditions (a) said molten composition being formed by melt mixing at a temperature of at least 180° C., (b) said melt mixing being carried out and under a pressure of at least 1500 psi (103 Bar), (c) said extruding being carried out at a temperature of at least 120° C., and (d) said extruding being carried out under a pressure of at least 1000 psi (69 Bar), said conditions being effective to produce closed cell, smooth skin, low density foamed thermoplastic polymer comprising polystyrene. in the absence of any co-blowing agent.

Abstract: The invention relates to a thermally insulated conduit pipe, comprising at least one medium pipe, at least one thermal insulation arranged around the medium pipe, and at least one outer jacket arranged around the thermal insulation, wherein the outer jacket possibly comprises a barrier made of plastic, and wherein the thermal insulation comprises a foam, the cell gas of which contains at least 10 vol % HFOs. Such conduit pipe has good insulating behavior, good environmental balance, and is easily producible.

Abstract: The invention provides polyurethane and polyisocyanurate foams and methods for the preparation thereof.
