Abstract: A process is disclosed for making CF3CF═CHF. The process involves reacting CF3CClFCCl2F with H2 in a reaction zone in the presence of a catalyst to produce a product mixture comprising CF3CF═CHF. The catalyst has a catalytically effective amount of palladium supported on a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, fluorided alumina, aluminum fluoride and mixtures thereof and the mole ratio of H2 to CF3CClFCCl2F fed to the reaction zone is between about 1:1 and about 5:1. Also disclosed are azeotropic compositions of CF3CClFCCl2F and HF and azeotropic composition of CF3CHFCH2F and HF.

Compositions comprising HCFC-243db, HCFO-1233xf, and/or HCFC-244db are useful in processes to make HFO-1234yf. Abstract: A method for producing a hydrofluoroolefin is provided. The formation of by-products of an over-reduced product having hydrogen added to a material chlorofluoroolefin and an over-reduced product having not only chlorine atoms but also fluorine atoms in the chlorofluoroolefin replaced with hydrogen atoms is suppressed in the method. The method includes reacting a specific chlorofluoroolefin with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst supported on a carrier to obtain the hydrofluoroolefin. The catalyst is a catalyst composed of an alloy containing at least one platinum group element of palladium and platinum, and at least one second element of manganese, copper, aluminum, gold, lithium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, silver, zinc, cadmium, indium, silicon, germanium, tin, lead, arsenic, antimony, and bismuth.

Abstract: A hydrofluoroolefin is produced by reacting a chlorofluoroolefin with hydrogen in the presence of a platinum group metal catalyst supported on a carbon carrier to obtain a hydrofluoroolefin. The chlorofluoroolefin is represented by formula (1): CZX═CClY, where X is F or Cl, Y is F, Cl or H, and Z is F or CF3. The hydrofluoroolefin is represented by formula (2): CZX′ ═CHY′, where X′ is F when X is F, or X′ is H when X is Cl, Y′ is F when Y is F, or Y′ is H when Y is Cl or H, and Z is the same as Z in the formula (1). The carbon carrier has acidic functional groups, and the total acidic functional group amount in the carbon carrier is at most 50 μmol/g.
