    Abstract: A roadway safety system, method, and apparatus are provided for preventing a wrong-way collisions on roadways and exit ramps of roadways by maintaining robotic drones at a drone docking station located along the roadway and/or at or near an exit ramp of the roadway; monitoring the exit ramp to detect a wrong-way vehicle that enters the exit ramp in a wrong direction; transmitting a first communication signal to a safety control system upon detecting the wrong-way vehicle; launching at least a first robotic drone from the one or more robotic drones toward the wrong-way vehicle in response to the first communication signal; and generating an alert or warning message from at least the first robotic drone to notify a driver of the wrong-way vehicle that the wrong-way vehicle is traveling in the wrong direction.

    Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure describe systems, methods, and devices for automated vehicular control based on glare detected by an optical system of a vehicle. In some aspects, automated control includes controlling the operation of the vehicle itself, a vehicle subsystem, or a vehicle component based on a level of glare detected. According to some examples, controlling the operation of a vehicle includes instructing an automatically or manually operated vehicle to traverse a selected route based on levels of glare detected or expected along potentials routes to a destination. According to other examples, controlling operation of a vehicle subsystem or a vehicle component includes triggering automated responses by the subsystem or the component based on a level of glare detected or expected. In some additional aspects, glare data is shared between individual vehicles and with a remote data processing system for further analysis and action.

    Abstract: System, methods, and other embodiments described herein relate to implementing cooperative management strategies. In one embodiment, a method includes determining a severity score and a risk area. The method may then determine whether vehicles should belong to a first vehicle set, which may perform a cooperative vehicle response action, or a second vehicle set, in which individual response actions may be performed. The method may then generate a cooperative response action or an individual response action corresponding to the cooperative or individual vehicle sets, provided such vehicle sets are not empty.

    Abstract: A method of using a directional sensor for the purposes of detecting the presence of a vehicle or an object within a zone of interest on a roadway or in a parking space. The method comprises the following steps: transmitting a microwave transmit pulse of less than 5 feet; radiating the transmitted pulse by a directional antenna system; receiving received pulses by an adjustable receive window; integrating or combining signals from multiple received pulses; amplifying and filtering the integrated receive signal; digitizing the combined signal; comparing the digitized signal to at least one preset or dynamically computed threshold values to determine the presence or absence of an object in the field of view of the sensor; and providing at least one pulse generator with rise and fall times of less than 3 ns each and capable of generating pulses less than 10 ns in duration.

    Abstract: The vehicle control device includes a start determination unit configured to determine whether or not the inter-vehicle distance between the preceding vehicle and the host vehicle has become equal to or greater than a start threshold greater in value than the stop threshold, and a vehicle control unit configured to start the host vehicle based on a preset speed profile after the start determination unit determines that the inter-vehicle distance between the preceding vehicle and the host vehicle is equal to or greater than the start threshold and maintain the stopped state of the host vehicle until the start determination unit determines that the inter-vehicle distance between the preceding vehicle and the host vehicle is equal to or greater than the start threshold after the preceding vehicle and the host vehicle stop.
