    Abstract: A measuring system for determining a directional characteristic of a first signal is provided. The device under test comprises sensor means for determining its position and/or orientation. The measuring system comprises positioning means for positioning and/or orienting the device under test, and a measuring device. The position and/or orientation are transmitted by the device under test to the measuring device. The measuring device comprises antenna means for receiving or sending the first signal and processing means for processing the position and/or orientation information. The processing means determine the directional characteristic at least from the position and/or orientation.

    Abstract: Circuits and methods for generating a pulse are provided. The generating can comprise receiving at least one trigger input signal with a pulse generating circuit; generating a voltage pulse having a duration less than the avalanche time of a transistor in response to at least a portion of the at least one trigger input signal with the pulse generating circuit; transmitting the voltage pulse from the pulse generating circuit to a terminal of the transistor, the transistor constructed and arranged to be operable in an avalanche mode; and outputting an avalanche pulse from at least one terminal of the transistor in response to the voltage pulse. In some embodiments, the pulse can be transmitted with an antenna in a radar system, and a return pulse can be received and processed.

    Abstract: An apparatus for detecting the distance of an object from a signal transmitter during radiation of a transmitter signal uses a first capacitor which is initially short-circuited by means of a first switch and subsequently is charged from a constant current source following an opening of the switch. Upon a reception of an echo signal, the charge of the first capacitor is transferred to a second capacitor by closing a second switch at the time of the echo signal reception. The charge on the second capacitor, which is proportional to the elapsed time between transmitted and received signals, is delivered to an output via a low pass filter with the output signal representing a distance measuring signal.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a range finder operating on the principle of finding the range of an object by measuring the time between transmission of a pulse towards an object and the reception of the reflected pulse. Errors in the range measurement caused by the different half-rise times of reflected pulses of different amplitudes are avoided by using only a reflected pulse of a predetermined constant magnitude as a measuring pulse for range determination. The desired magnitude of the measuring pulse is obtained by altering the power of the transmitter and/or by changing the amplification of the receiver. The use of pulsed laser range finders operating in the infra-red region of the spectrum is referred to for generating pulses as well as other sources of pulsed energy.
