Abstract: Methods and apparatus disclosed within provide a solution to problems associated with the use of either high frequency or low frequency radar signals. Methods of the present disclosure may transmit high frequency radar signals, transmit low frequency radar signals, receive reflected radar signals, and process the received radar signals using parameters respectively suited for processing high frequency and low frequency radar signals. Evaluations may be performed that allow an apparatus to adapt for limitations associated with the processing of high frequency radar data, the processing of low frequency radar data, or both. Different correlation functions may be performed that allow the apparatus to identify objects and to identify object velocities using different sets of program code instructions. These different evaluations and correlations may result in the generation of a set of “point-cloud” information that may be used by other processes of a sensing apparatus.

Abstract: A method in an illustrative embodiment includes determining that a first object authenticated by an electronic device is accessing the electronic device. The method further includes, in response to a second object being detected within a detection range using a radar of the electronic device, determining, based on a detected signal, that the second object is a person. The method further includes determining a distance and an angle between the second object and the electronic device based on an azimuth signal in the detected signal. The method further includes in response to determining that the distance is less than a distance threshold and the angle is less than an angle threshold, determining, based on the biological feature signal, whether the second object is trustworthy. The method further includes deauthenticating the first object in response to determining that the second object is untrustworthy.

Abstract: Systems and methods for using velocity measurements to adjust Doppler filter bandwidth are provided herein. In certain embodiments, a method for adjusting bandwidth for at least one Doppler filter in a Doppler beam sharpened radar altimeter comprises receiving a velocity measurement; adjusting the bandwidth of the at least one Doppler filter based on the velocity measurement; and transmitting a radar beam, wherein the radar beam is aimed toward a surface. The method further comprises receiving at least one reflected signal, wherein the at least one reflected signal is a reflection of the radar beam being reflected off of at least one portion of the surface; and filtering the at least one reflected signal with the at least one Doppler filter to form at least one Doppler beam.

Abstract: A method for determining a kinematic structure of a two-dimensional wind field and a system determining the same are provided. The method comprises receiving a plurality of Doppler velocities and a plurality of distances between a Doppler radar and a gate. Each Doppler velocity of the plurality of Doppler velocities corresponds to a respective distance of the plurality of distances between the Doppler radar and the gate. The method further comprises calculating a plurality of distance Doppler velocity values. The distance Doppler velocity values represent the plurality of measured Doppler velocities and the distance between the Doppler radar and the gate. The method further comprises estimating the kinematic structure of the 2D wind field using the plurality of distance Doppler wind velocity values.

Abstract: A radar sensing system includes at least one transmitter, at least one receiver and a processor. The at least one transmitter transmits a power shaped radio signal. The at least one receiver receives radio signal that includes the transmitted radio signal reflected from targets in the environment. The received radio signal is provided to the processor. The processor samples the received radio signal during a plurality of time intervals to produce a sampled stream. The different time intervals of the plurality of time intervals will contain different signal levels of radio signals reflected from the targets. The processor also selects a particular time interval of the plurality of time intervals that is free of samples of radio signals reflected off of the targets that are closer than a first threshold distance from an equipped vehicle.

Abstract: A radar sensing system for a vehicle includes a transmitter, a receiver, a memory, and a processor. The transmitter transmits a radio signal and the receiver receives a reflected radio signal. The processor samples reflected radio signals during a plurality of time slices. The processor produces samples by correlating reflected radio signals to time-delayed replicas of transmitted radio signals. The processor accumulates the time slices into a first radar data cube and stores the first radar data cube in a memory. The processor combines a portion of the first radar data cube with a portion of a previously stored radar data cube. Based at least in part on the combined portions of the radar data cubes, the processor processes a time series that is a time series of the first radar data cube concatenated with a time series from the previously stored radar data cube.

Abstract: A radar signal transmitter transmits first and second radar signals at different first and second frequencies. A radar receiver receives reflected radar signals and generates receive signals indicative of the reflected radar signals. A first receive signal is indicative of a first reflected radar signal generated by reflection of the first transmitted radar signal, and a second receive signal is indicative of a second reflected radar signal generated by reflection of the second transmitted radar signal. A processor receives the first and second receive signals and computes a difference between the first and second receive signals to generate a difference signal. The processor processes the difference signal to provide radar information for the region, the processor adjusting at least one of amplitude and phase of at least one of the first and second receive signals such that the difference is optimized at a preselected range from the receiver.
