Single step process for the preparation of lower α-alkene polymerisation heterogeneous solid catalyst, wherein the procatalyst is obtained by reacting organomagnesium precursor and titanium tetrahalide or titanium haloalkoxo species of the formula Ti(OR)m Xn, with a hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon solvent and internal electron donor and optionally an acid halide under microwave irradiation of 300 to 1200 W. The mole ratio of the organomagnesium precursor to the titanium tetrachloride or titanium haloalko species is 1:6 to 1:20 and the mole ratios of the electron donor and acid halide to titanium is 0.3 to 1.5 and 0.02 to 0.2, respectively.

The invention provides a metallocene catalyst for use in preparing syndiotactic polyolefins. The catalyst comprises a bridged metallocene in which one of the cyclopentadienyl rings is substituted in a substantially different manner from the other ring. It was discovered that this type of catalyst is highly syndiospecific, and it also produces a polymer with a novel microstructure. The invention further includes the use of one or more of the catalysts in a polymerization process. The catalyst is generally described by the formulaR"(CpR.sub.n)(CpR'.sub.m)MeQ.sub.kwherein each Cp is a cyclopentadienyl or substituted cyclopentadienyl ring; each R.sub.n and R'.sub.m is the same or different and is a hydrocarbyl radicals having 1-20 carbon atoms; R" is a structural bridge between the two Cp rings imparting stereorigidity to the catalyst; Me is a group 4b, 5b, or 6b metal from the Periodic Table of Elements; each Q is a hydrocarbyl radical having 1-20 carbon atoms or is a halogen; 0.ltoreq.k.ltoreq.3; 0.ltoreq.n.ltoreq.4; 1.ltoreq.m.ltoreq.4; and wherein R'.sub.m is selected such that (CpR'.sub.m) is a sterically different ring than (CpR.sub.n).

A novel olefin polymerization catalyst is provided which comprises (A) a transition metal compound or lanthanoid compound containing two or more atoms selected from the group consisting of boron, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, sulfur, and selenium; and (B) a Lewis acid. A process for producing an olefin polymer is also provided. The catalyst has a high olefin polymerization activity without a combined use of an expensive organoaluminum oxy-compound or organoboron compound, and can maintain the high activity for a long polymerization time.

Process for the preparation of a polypropylene molding composition A propylene block copolymer having good flow properties and a very good low temperature impact strength is obtained in a high yield if a catalyst which consists of a chiral metallocene, containing a bridge, of the formula I ##STR1## and an aluminoxane is used for the polymerization of propylene and the comonomers. The polymerization is carried out in two stages, a crystalline propylene polymer being prepared in the first stage.
