摘要: An assistive device is disclosed that includes a plurality of control systems for controlling active and passive tasks. The assistive device accommodates active power generation when needed, but is otherwise configured to switch to passive control for other tasks. The assistive device further includes a continuously variable transmission to optimize movement of the assistive device for a variety of tasks. The assistive device includes a lower limb embodiment defining an artificial knee joint controlled by the plurality of control systems.

Cutaneous sensory feedback and proprioceptive feedback in a subject, as well as selective stimulation of axons or nerve fascicles of a neuron of a subject are provided.

摘要: A passive ankle-foot prosthesis to replicate a human foot. The passive ankle-foot prosthesis includes a foot part, an ankle frame, a yoke, and a spring. The ankle frame is attached fixedly to a second end of the foot part. The yoke is configured to be attached to a residual limb of a user. A first end of the yoke is pivotally attached to a first end of the ankle frame utilizing a pivot. The yoke is configured to rotate around a pivot axis. The pivot axis passes through the pivot. The spring is disposed between the ankle frame and the yoke. A first end of the spring is connected to a second end of the yoke. A second end of the spring is connected to a second end of the ankle frame. The spring is configured to apply an upward force to the second end of the ankle frame based on the yoke's rotational movements.

The first and second parts are adapted to form at least part of a weight bearing connection between a prosthetic foot and a socket. A pump system includes a pump mechanism operatively connected to the first and second parts. Rotation of the first part and/or the second part about the joint moves the pump mechanism between an original configuration in which the volume of a fluid chamber defined by the pump mechanism is zero or near-zero, and an expanded configuration in which the volume of the fluid chamber is increased.

摘要: A system comprises one or more wearable devices including a first body interface adapted to be secured to a first bodily part. A second body interface is adapted to be secured to a second bodily part separated from the first bodily part by a physiological joint. One or more joints provide one or more degrees of freedom between the first body interface and the second body interface. A magnetorheological (MR) fluid actuator unit comprises one or more power sources. An MR fluid clutch apparatus receiving torque from the at least one power source, the at least one MR fluid clutch apparatus operable to generate a variable amount of torque transmission when subjected to a magnetic field. A transmission couples the MR fluid actuator unit to the wearable device for converting torque from the MR fluid actuator unit to relative movement of the body interfaces with respect to one another.

摘要: A haptic stimulator includes a multilayer sheet with a piezoelectric or electroactive polymer layer adapted to mechanically deform upon application of voltage, the multilayer sheet secured to a substrate, and a source of electrical stimulation coupled to drive electrodes on the polymer layer with an AC signal to vibrate the polymer layer. In particular embodiments, the polymer contains polyvinylidene fluoride, and electrodes are patterned to control local electric fields. Another haptic stimulator has first and second electrodes with an air gap and an insulating sheet between first and second electrodes, with an AC voltage driver connecting to the electrodes. In a method of providing haptic stimulation to skin an alternating current supply drives first and second electrodes, the electrodes disposed upon either a piezoelectric or electroactive polymer sheet, vibrating the polymer layer by driving the electrodes; and coupling vibrations of the polymer layer to the sensate skin.
