摘要: A method of making a wet friction material layer includes adding a media in liquid form to a material base including filler particles embedded in a matrix of fibers; drying the media to solidify the media on the filler particles such that the media plugs holes in the filler particles; adding a binder to the material base; and unplugging at least some of the holes in the filler particles by removing at least some of the media from the material base.

摘要: A system for assisting a user in moving a device relative to a structure comprises a magnetorheological (MR) fluid actuator unit including at least one torque source and at least one MR fluid clutch apparatus having an input coupled to the at least one torque source to receive torque from the at least one torque source, the MR fluid clutch apparatus controllable to transmit a variable amount of assistance force via an output thereof. An interface is configured for coupling the output of the at least one MR fluid clutch apparatus to the device or surrounding structure. At least one sensor provides information about a movement of the device. A processor unit for controlling the at least one MR fluid clutch apparatus in exerting the variable amount of assistance force as a function of said information, wherein the system is configured for one of the MR fluid actuator unit and the interface to be coupled to the structure, and for the other of the MR fluid actuator unit and the interface to be coupled to the device for the assistance force from the MR fluid actuator unit to assist in moving the device.

摘要: Disclosed herein is a bidirectional MR actuator comprising a first input member comprising a first rotor, an output member comprising a second rotor and a second input member comprising a housing having a non-magnetic portion and a magnetic portion. Each of the first input member and the output member are coupled to the second input member, the housing defining a chamber for accommodating the first rotor and the second rotor therein and further for receiving a quantity of MR fluid therewithin. The actuator further comprises a magnetic field generation assembly comprising a first coil assembly configured to selectively apply a magnetic field to a portion of the MR fluid between the first rotor and the second rotor, and a second coil assembly configured to selectively apply a magnetic field to a portion of the MR fluid between the second rotor and the magnetic portion of the housing.

An output(s) is rotatably mounted about the input for rotating about a common axis with the input, the output(s) having output shear surface(s), the input shear surface and the output shear surface separated annular space(s), with magnetorheological fluid, configured to generate a variable amount of torque transmission between the sets of input rotor and output rotor when subjected to a magnetic field. An electromagnet(s) delivers a magnetic field through the magnetorheological fluid, the electromagnet configured to vary the strength of the magnetic field, whereby actuation of the electromagnet results in torque transmission from the input to the output. A member(s) defining at least one of the shear surfaces is made of a low-permeability material.

A disclosed stabilizer bar disconnect system includes a fluidic clutch configured to control torque transferred between first and second bar members during a driving event to control a roll stiffness of a vehicle. The fluidic clutch includes: a housing, a fluid chamber in the housing; a fluid reservoir in fluid communication with the fluid chamber; first and second fluid control members in the fluid chamber and connected to the first and second bar members, and fluid valves configured to control a flow of a fluid through the fluid chamber and the fluid reservoir. The fluidic clutch is changeable between a connected state in which the fluidic clutch couples the first bar member to the second bar member and a disconnected state in which the fluidic clutch decouples the first bar member from the second bar member.

摘要: In one aspect, there is provided a damper control system for a reciprocating pump assembly according to which control signals are sent to electromagnets. In another aspect, there is provided a method of dampening vibrations in a pump drivetrain according to which a beginning of torque variation is detected and at least a portion of the torque variation is negated. In another aspect, signals or data associated with pump characteristics are received from sensors, torque characteristics and damper response voltages per degree of crank angle are calculated, and control signals are sent to electromagnets. In another aspect, a damper system includes a fluid chamber configured to receive a magnetorheological fluid; a flywheel disposed at least partially within the fluid chamber and adapted to be operably coupled to a fluid pump crankshaft; and a magnetic device proximate the flywheel. The magnetic device applies a variable drag force to the flywheel.

摘要: An active suspension system comprises at least one biasing device configured to support a body from a structure, and at least one motor. A magnetorheological (MR) fluid clutch apparatus(es) is coupled to the at least one motor to receive torque from the motor, the MR fluid clutch apparatus controllable to transmit a variable amount of torque. A mechanism is between the at least one MR fluid clutch apparatus and the body to convert the torque received from the at least one MR fluid clutch apparatus into a force on the body. Sensor(s) provide information indicative of a state of the body or structure. A controller receives the information indicative of the state of the body or structure and for outputting a signal to control the at least one MR fluid clutch apparatus in exerting a desired force on the body to control movement of the body according to a desired movement behavior.

The resistive torque-generating device can include an integrated stator disk system including at least one metallic stator disk having a planar disk body, and at least one rotor disposed adjacent to the at least one metallic stator disk such that there are at least two shear areas formed by the at least one metallic stator disk and the at least one rotor; and magneto-rheological material disposed between portions of the at least one metallic stator disk and the at least one rotor. In some embodiments, the rotor(s) is/are a bent rotor(s), thereby providing for increased torque generation while fitting within tight space constraints.

摘要: A mechanical actuator system has variable and controllable mechanical impedance. Such a mechanical actuator system may be used to effectuate a degree of freedom in a robot, i.e., to control speed, output torque and direction of movement of a robotic component, such as a joint, wheel, arm, wrist or grabber. Mechanical impedance, i.e., an amount of “resistance” the robot presents to a human user, can be controlled for safety and rehabilitation purposes. The mechanical actuator system includes a mechanical differential and two adjustable-engagement clutches driven by motor. Advantageously, the motor may turn at a constant speed and direction, yet the mechanical actuator system can be controlled to turn in either direction and at a desired speed. The adjustable-engagement clutches may be electrorheological (ER) fluid clutches, magnetorheological (MR) fluid clutches, conventional dry friction clutches or any other type of clutch whose degrees of engagement can be controlled.
