Abstract: The present invention provides methods and kits for detecting cilium markers in samples and uses thereof for detecting and treating endothelial damage or dysfunction or vascular injury in the subject. In one aspect, the disclosure provides a method of detecting endothelial damage or dysfunction or vascular injury in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising: detecting one or more markers of cilium in a biological sample from the subject, wherein a higher level of cilium detected in the biological sample compared to control indicates endothelial damage or dysfunction or vascular injury.

Abstract: In one embodiment, the invention provides a method of diagnosing sepsis or a virus-related infection (often a viral hemorrhagic fever infection) in a subject by detecting and measuring the level of a set of sepsis and virus infection-associated-GTPase biomarkers in a sample obtained from the subject using multiplexed flow cytometry. Related kits are also provided. In a preferred embodiment, the invention provides point of care diagnostic methods for determining an early stage sepsis or the severity of a virus infection, especially in a hospital or other setting.

Abstract: Certain embodiments of the invention provide a method for identifying a cancer cell that is sensitive to a biguanide compound or other CYP epoxygenase inhibitor, comprising detecting increased expression of at least one cytochrome P450 (CYP) and/or decreased expression of soluble epoxide hydrolase (EPHX2) in the cancer cell, wherein increased CYP expression and/or decreased expression of EPHX2 in the cancer cell correlates with increased sensitivity of the cancer cell to the biguanide compound or other CYP epoxygenase inhibitor.

Abstract: Anti-VASA antibodies (mAbs), particularly humanized mAbs that specifically bind to VASA with high affinity, are disclosed. The amino acid sequences of the CDRs of the light chains and the heavy chains, as well as consensus sequences for these CDRs, of these anti-VASA mAbs are provided. The disclosure also provides nucleic acid molecules encoding the anti-VASA mAbs, expression vectors, host cells, methods for making the anti-VASA mAbs, and methods for expressing the anti-VASA mAbs. Finally, methods of using the anti-VASA mAbs to isolate and/or purify cells expressing VASA are disclosed.
