摘要: In one aspect, an insert including a single metal or alloy compatible with cryo-compressed tanks is disclosed. In one embodiment, the insert contains one, two, or more tubes that extend into the inner storage volume of the tank. The insert may be integrally formed with the tubes. The tubes enable the entrance and exit of hydrogen to the inner storage volume. In one embodiment, the tank includes a boss suitable to accept the insert. The boss and the insert may be the same metal. The insert may minimize the number of welds suitable for use in on-board heavy duty storage applications. Overall, this type of insert decreases the probability of hydrogen leaks, reduces the cost of the insert as only one piece is required, and leads to faster manufacturing as fewer welds are required.

摘要: A heat exchange system includes cooling tubes that carry coolant and are placed on an external surface of a storage tank, which may be spherical, cylindrical, or other shape. The storage tank may be a cryogenic rocket fuel tank. The cooling tubes are bent to particular radius of curvatures that correspond to the varying curvatures of the storage tank. A network of spacers and bridge brackets with adjustable setscrews are used to precisely place the cooling tubes in correct positions on the external surface of the storage tank. Once placed in the desired position, the setscrews are adjusted to maximize the surface area contact between the cooling tubes and the exterior surface of the storage tank, resulting in optimal heat transfer without overstressing the materials of the tubing or the storage tank. The precisely positioned tubes may then be permanently affixed to the exterior surface of the storage tank using a cryogenic adhesive.

摘要: A system for increasing the efficiency of heating cryogenic fluid flowing in a downstream direction through a fluid conduit includes a heating mechanism, an upstream valve, a downstream valve, and a controller. The heating mechanism heats the cryogenic fluid, resulting in conversion of a portion of the cryogenic fluid into a buoyant flow moving in an upstream direction. The upstream valve is located upstream of the heating mechanism and controls an upstream-valve mass flow rate of the cryogenic fluid. The downstream valve is located downstream of the heating mechanism and controls a downstream-valve mass flow rate of the cryogenic fluid. The controller adjusts the upstream valve to a choked position at which: an upstream-valve non-buoyant mass flow rate substantially matches the downstream-valve mass flow rate, and the upstream valve at least partially blocks the buoyant flow from flowing in the upstream direction past the upstream valve.

摘要: A method of partially insulating an interior space of a pre-formed fluted core panel is disclosed herein. The fluted core panel includes a first facesheet, a second facesheet spaced apart from the first facesheet, and webs between the first facesheet and second facesheet. The interior space is defined between the first facesheet, the second facesheet, and adjacent webs. The method includes positioning a spacer in a first portion of the interior space, positioning a membrane between the spacer and a second portion of the interior space, and positioning insulation in the second portion of the interior space. Additionally, the method includes pressing the membrane against the spacer, curing the membrane, and removing the spacer from the first portion of the interior space.

The vessel provides the ability to be packed for transport in a compact state and erected at the point of use. The vessel can be used multiple times. The vessel's volume can also be adjusted during use to minimize or eliminate head space in the vessel.
