摘要: A system and a method is disclosed for adjusting and/or optimizing a fermentation process performed in one U-loop fermenter, the system including a processor and database for repetitively providing a test value of a fermenter parameter and for repetitively entering the test value of the parameter in the database; wherein the database stores multiple test value entries at various points in time and also stores multiple control value entries at various points in time, wherein the processor performs a mathematical analysis of the test value for providing a calculated test value, and/or the control value for providing at least one calculated control value; and selects, on the basis of the calculated test value and/or on the calculated control value, an adjustment to be introduced into at least one other U-loop fermenter to benefit from the change made in the one U-loop fermenter.

摘要: A multi-phase fluid solution measurement and gas separation system is described. The system includes a substantially vertical fluid supply pipe that introduces the multi-phase fluid solution in a steady flow having a substantially calm and steady fluid surface to a mud-gas separation unit. The mud-gas separation unit includes measurement tools such as force sensors and level sensors to allow for a rheological model of the fluid to be calculated. The system also includes components for flaring or processing gas which separates from the multi-phase solution.

摘要: A downhole tool includes a housing configured to be placed into a subterranean environment and a mixer disposed in the housing. The mixer includes a first inlet configured to receive a fusible metal or alloy component and a second inlet configured to receive a solid metal or semi-metal component. Additionally, the mixer includes a mixing chamber configured to mix the fusible metal or alloy component and the solid metal or semi-metal component to form a liquid or partially liquid alloy. Further, the mixer includes an outlet configured to discharge the liquid or partially liquid alloy into the subterranean environment. The liquid or partially liquid alloy is configured to harden into a solid alloy over time.

摘要: Techniques for selective placement of carbon nanotubes using bifunctional acid monolayers are provided. In one aspect, a method for selective placement of carbon nanotubes on a metal oxide surface includes the steps of: dispersing poly-fluorene polymer-wrapped carbon nanotubes in an organic solvent; creating a patterned monolayer of a bifunctional acid on the metal oxide surface, wherein the bifunctional acid comprises a first acid functional group for binding to the metal oxide surface, and a second acid functional group for binding to the poly-fluorene polymer-wrapped carbon nanotubes; and contacting the poly-fluorene polymer-wrapped carbon nanotubes dispersed in the organic solvent with the patterned monolayer of the bifunctional acid on the metal oxide surface to selectively place the carbon nanotubes on the metal oxide surface via the patterned monolayer of the bifunctional acid. A carbon nanotube-based device and method of formation thereof are also provided.

摘要: The present invention provides low profile, thick (“stuby”) longitudinal fins having a cross section which is a parallelogram, trapezoid or a triangle extending from 10% to 100% of a coil pass and comprising from 3 to 45 weight % of a coil in a radiant section of a furnace for thermally cracking one or more of paraffins and naphtha. The fins provide an additional surface through which heat may be transferred to the coil making the coil more efficient reducing greenhouse emissions.

摘要: A system for isolating and emulsifying particles or cells within droplets includes a microfluidic trapping device having an inlet and an outlet and one or more channels disposed between the inlet and the outlet, at least some of the one or more channels having a plurality of expansion regions serially arranged along the length thereof. A droplet generation device is fluidically coupled to the outlet of the microfluidic trapping device, the droplet generation device has a plurality of channels of a first height that terminate at an interface into a chamber having a second height that is greater than the first height, wherein the plurality of channels droplet generation device and the chamber contain an oil phase therein and wherein the interface is a step junction. In some embodiments, the droplet generation device is itself oriented at an angle with respect to horizontal to prevent droplet coalescence.
