    摘要: Reagents have been prepared from water-insoluble polymeric particles to which are covalently attached avidin, biotin or an avidin or biotin derivative. The polymeric particles comprise a polymer on at least the outer surface which is derived from at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer having a reactive activated 2-substituted ethylsulfonyl, vinylsulfonyl or active halogen atom. Covalent attachment of avidin, biotin or an avidin or biotin derivative is effected either directly or indirectly through these reactive groups. The resulting reagent is useful in analytical elements and various analytical methods including agglutination and sandwich assays. The immobilized avidin, biotin or derivative can be used to complex with the corresponding biotin or avidin molecule which may be conjugated to a compound of biological interest.

    摘要: Certain ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers having a reactive carboxy group are useful for preparing homo- and copolymers for a variety of uses, including diagnostic assays. The polymers can be supplied as latex particles in aqueous compositions. The monomers are represented by the structure: ##STR1## wherein: R is hydrogen, halo or alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms,M is hydrogen, an alkali metal ion or an ammonium ion, andL is a linking group having from 8 to 50 atoms in its linking chain, and comprises two or more divalent hydrocarbon groups connected or terminated with one or more nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur atoms, or with one or more groups containing such atoms in the linking chain, provided L has at least one arylene which is not directly connected to the terminal ##STR2## group, and further provided that none of the hydrocarbon groups has non-aromatic unsaturation.

    摘要: A polymeric latex composition having a hydrophobe incorporated therein can be prepared using a novel latex "loading" method. This method includes providing a loadable latex, providing a hydrophobe dissolved in a water-miscible organic solvent, heating the loadable latex to about 30.degree. to about 90.degree. C. and gradually adding the hydrophobe solution to the heated loadable latex under conditions to keep the hydrophobe in solution and to "load" it into the latex particles. In preferred embodiments, the latex is surfactant-free and has particles which have outer reactive groups which are capable of reacting with free amine or sulfhydryl groups of a biological compound. Such latices can be used to prepare water-insoluble biological reagents having a biological compound attached to the particles.

    摘要: The properties of a dichromated hydrophilic colloid photosensitive composition are improved by the incorporation of certain copolymer latices. More particularly, the copolymer particles in the latex conform to the structure:--A).sub. (B --.phi.-awherein A is a polymerized monomer or monomers having the structure: ##STR1## and B is a polymerized monomer or monomers having the structure: ##STR2## wherein each R.sup.1 is independently hydrogen or methyl;R.sup.2 is phenyl, substituted phenyl or a straight- or branched-chain alkoxycarbonyl group of about 2-8 carbon atoms;R.sup.3 is --NR.sup.4 R.sup.5 or --OR.sup.6 wherein R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl of about 1-8 carbon atoms including substituted alkyl, and alkyl containing hetero atoms in the alkyl chain, and R.sup.6 is hydroxyalkyl of about 1-8 carbon atoms; anda represents a weight percent of about 75-95.
