Abstract:
1. A COMPOSITION COMPRISING A MAJOR AMOUNT OF A HYDROCARBON FUEL OR LUBRICATING OIL AND .001 TO 45 WT. PERCENT OF AN OIL SOLUBLE ADDUCT OF AN EPOXIDIZED TERPOLYMER, USEFUL AS A LUBRICANT OR FLUEL ADDITIVE, SAID TERPOLYMER HAVING A MOLECULAR WEIGHT IN THE RANGE OF 10.000 TO 1,000,000 VISCOSITY AVERAGE MOLECULAR WEIGHT AND COMPRISING IN THE RANGE OF ABOUT 30 TO 85 MOLE PERCENT ETHYLENE, ABOUT 14.5 TO ABOUT 69.5 MOLE PERCENT OF A C3 TO C8 ALPHA MONOOLEFIN AND ABOUT 0.5 TO ABOUT 20 MOLE PERCENT OF A C5 TO C14 NON-CONJUGATED DIOLEFIN, WHEREIN ABOUT 10 TO 100% OF THE DOUBLE BONDS IN THE TERPOLYMER HAVE BEEN EPOXIDIZED, AND ABOUT 10 TO 100% OF THE EPOXIDIZED GROUPS HAVE BEEN REACTED WITH A C1 TO C18 AMINE WHICH CONTAINS 1 TO 8 NITROGEN ATOMS TO FORM SAID ADDUCT.
Abstract:
Hydrocarbon oils such as residua fuels, residua-containing fuels, flash distillate fuels and crude oils are improved in their pour points by the incorporation of a pour point depressing copolymer of 82 to 90 mole percent ethylene with certain substituted ethylenes of 3 to 40 carbon atoms which have less than 18 carbon atoms in any linear side chains.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of preparing terminally functionalized telechelic polymers using a cationic living polymer product or a terminal tert-chloride chain end of a carbocationic quasiliving polymer product, which comprises quenching the polymer product with an N-substituted pyrrole to thereby functionalize the N-substituted pyrrole at the terminal reactive polymer chain end(s). Also disclosed are the terminal functionalized polyisobuyl N-substituted pyrrole compounds where the polyisobutyl group is subsitituted at the 2 and 3 position of the N-substituted pyrrole.
Abstract:
Fuels for gasoline engines contain small amounts of copolymers of alkyl (meth)-acrylates where the alkyl radical is of 8 to 40 carbon atoms and/or vinyl esters of carboxylic acids of 8 to 40 carbon atoms and monoethylenically unsaturated mono- and/or dicarboxylic acids of 3 to 12 carbon atoms and/or monoethylenically unsaturated compounds having sulfo and/or phosphonic acid groups, having a total molecular weight of from 500 to 20,000 g per mole, some or all of the carboxyl, sulfo and phosphonic acid groups of the copolymers having been reacted with an alkali or alkaline earth with formation of the alkali metla salts or alkaline earth metal salts and the remainder of the acid groups having been reacted with ammonia and/or amines of not more than 50 carbon atoms to give the corresponding amide groups and/or ammonium salts.
Abstract:
Lubricating oils comprising mineral oils and synthetic oils having high pour points are provided with one or more enhanced characteristics such as improved pour point, viscosity, viscosity index, metal-free and anti-wear properties by the addition of a dialkyl, diaryl, dialkaryl, diarylalkyl; or diaryloxyalkyl dithiophosphate copolymer of (A) a monomeric aziridineethyl acrylate or methacrylate and (B) a monomeric alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate.
Abstract:
Electrically conductive hydrocarbon fuel compositions containing from 0.01 to 40 ppm of an antistatic polysulfone copolymer additive consisting essentially of units derived from sulfur dioxide, C.sub.6.sub.-24 1-alkene and, optionally, an olefin of the formula ##STR1## wherein A is a group having the formula, --(C.sub.x H.sub.2x)--COOH, where x is from 0 to 17, and B is hydrogen or carboxyl; and a process for preparing same.
