An additive formulation suitable for antistatic modification and improving the electrical conductivity of inanimate organic material, consisting essentially of(A) from 1 to 50% by weight of an olefin-sulfur dioxide copolymer,(B) from 1 to 50% by weight of a compound which comprises one or more basic nitrogen atoms and has at least one relatively long-chain linear or branched hydrocarbon radical having at least four carbon atoms or an equivalent structural element which ensures the solubility of component (B) in the inanimate organic material, (C) from 0.1 to 30% by weight of an oil-soluble acid and (D) from 1 to 80% by weight of a high-boiling organic solvent which consists of one or more molecule types, where at least 80% by weight of these molecule types have a boiling point of more than 150° C. at standard pressure, where the sum of all components adds up to 100% by weight.

The calcium sulfate scale-inhibiting compositions are polyelectrolyte antiscalant compositions for the inhibition of calcium sulfate scale formation in desalination plant feed brine, such as that typically used with reverse osmosis desalination plants. In order to inhibit the formation of calcium sulfate scale, the polyelectrolyte antiscalant compositions are mixed at a concentration between approximately 1 ppm and approximately 50 ppm into the desalination plant feed brine. The polyelectrolyte antiscalant composition may be either poly[disodium 3-(diallylamino)propanephosphonate]-alt-(sulfur dioxide), poly[sodium 5-(diallylcarboxymethylammonio)pentanoate]-alt-(sulfur dioxide), or poly[sodium 5-(diallylcarboxymethylammonio)pentanoate].

The present invention provides a method for transferring a gene into cells, which is practically useful and can achieve high transfer efficiency, and also a composition for use in the method. By bringing a mixture of a composition comprising a diallylamine sulfur dioxide copolymer having a repeating unit represented by the formula (1) or a salt thereof and a gene into contact with a cell, a gene such as DNA and RNA can be transferred into a target cell safely and conveniently, and into a cell at a specific site with high gene transfer efficiency.

2-Ketopentafluoropropanesulfonic acid is obtained as a product of the reaction of sulfur trioxide and ethyl pentafluoroisopropenyl ether or by transesterification from corresponding esters. Similar sulfonic acids may be obtained by the latter process. The new compounds are useful as monomers for producing polymers, particularly moldable, dyeable, fluoropolymers, and as cationic initiators, e.g., for tetrahydrofuran polymerization.

ACCORDING TO THIS PROCESS, POLYAMINESULFONES CAN EASILY BE OBTAINED IN HIGH YIELDS.
