Abstract:
Novel esters of dithiophosphoric acid and secondary alcohols having two beta quaternary carbon atoms, and salts of such esters suitable as additives in oil compositions are disclosed.
Abstract:
This invention deals with new lubricant compositions comprising a liquid lubricant thickened with a zirconium polymer containing a bridged zirconium atom where the bridged groups are the anions of phosphinic acids of structure RR'P(X)XH or of carboxylic acids of structure RCOOH where R and R' are selected from hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, fluorinated and perfluorinated alkyl and aryl groups and X is oxygen or sulfur.
Abstract:
A turbine lubricant having outstanding oxidation stability, corrosion resistance and good viscosity stability is based on an alkyl phenyl phosphate ester and contains small amounts of benzotriazole, a mixed mono- and dialkylphosphate of the formula RH.sub.2 PO.sub.4 and R.sub.2 HPO.sub.4, wherein R is an alkyl group of 8-12 carbon atoms, and an antioxidant selected from the group consisting of:(a) a C.sub.12 to C.sub.18 alcohol ester of 3,3'-thiodipropionic acid;(b) pentaerythritol tetra(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate, and(c) 4,4'-thiobis-(3-methyl-6-tert-butylphenol).
Abstract:
Phosphorus-containing acids and salts are prepared by heating a mixture of(A) an acid of the formula ##STR1## where R is alkyl, with (B) an acid of the formula ##STR2## where R.sup.1 is aryl, for 3 to 10 hours at 55.degree. to 95.degree. C to form a mixture of acids (A) and (B) and an acid of the formula ##STR3## and optionally neutralizing to a salt to be used in lubricating oil.
Abstract:
Novel (N, N-diorganothiocarbamyl) phosphorothioites having the following general structures: ##STR1## and mixtures thereof impart good antiwear and EP properties to lubricant compositions (e.g. gear oils and cutting oils) containing them.
Abstract:
Disclosed are lubricating oil compositions containing from about 0.01 weight percent to about 5 weight percent of an oil-soluble multifunctional additive comprising:A. aniline disulfide dihydrocarbyl phosphoramide; orB. aniline disulfide dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphate; orC. aniline disulfide-phospho-sulfurized olefin;Where the hydrocarbyl groups are entirely hydrocarbon, or chloro, bromo or hydroxy substituted hydrocarbon. These additives may be the reaction product of bis-aniline disulfide with ##EQU1## c. phosphosulfurized olefin;Where R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are hydrocarbyl or chloro, bromo or hydroxy substituted hydrocarbyl. The disclosed compositions have improved extreme pressure, anti-wear, anti-oxidant, or dispersancy properties.
Abstract:
Disclosed are a process for manufacturing metal diaryl dithiophosphates, certain metal diaryl dithiophosphates, and lubricating oil compositions containing said metal diaryl dithiophosphates. The process for the manufacture of metal diaryl dithiophosphate generally comprises reacting P.sub.2 S.sub.5 with a hydroxyl aryl compound to form a dithiophosphoric acid; and neutralizing said dithiophosphoric acid with zinc, barium, cadmium, magnesium or nickel base in the presence of an effective amount of a promoter, said promoter comprising dialkyl dithiophosphoric acid. Metal diaryl dithiophosphates, especially for use in lubricating oil compositions, can be made by the above process.
Abstract:
Disclosed are lubricating oil compositions having improved anti-wear properties, comprising a major portion of a lubricating oil and an effective amount of an oil soluble additive combination comprising a basic zinc alkyl dithiophosphate having alkyl groups made from primary alcohols containing from about 6 to about 20 carbon atoms and a non-acidic lubricating oil anti-rust compound comprising a succinic anhydride substituted with an alkenyl group which has about 8 to about 50 carbon atoms reacted with an alcohol, an amine, or mixtures thereof. The zinc dithiophosphate is generally made from primary alcohol containing about 7 to about 12 carbon atoms and generally has a zinc to phosphorous ratio of about 1.15-1.5:1.
Abstract:
Reaction mixtures comprising components (A) Group II metal salts of phosphorus-containing acids, (B) basically reacting alkali metal compounds, and (C) optionally, di- or trivalent metal-containing salts are suitable for the preparation of basic metal salt compositions of phosphorus-containing acids, with the proviso that components (A), (B), and (C) are not the same. The basic metal salt compositions are useful in the preparation of lubricants.
