摘要: The instant disclosure is generally directed to low viscosity, low volatility lubricating compositions. The lubricating composition of the instant disclosure includes an oil of lubricating viscosity that contains a lubricating base oil and a hydrocarbon oil. The hydrocarbon oil makes up least 20 wt % of the oil of lubricating viscosity and has a kinematic viscosity of less than 3.7 c St at 100° C. and a NOACK volatility (measured by ASTM D5800) of less than 25 wt %. The lubricant composition further includes a polyalkenyl succinimide dispersant, and, optionally, other formulation additives. The lubricating compositions have been shown to increase fuel economy in internal combustion engines.

摘要: The instant disclosure generally relates to lubricating compositions having an oil of lubricating viscosity, a boron-containing additive, a boron-free dispersant, an overbased magnesium-based detergent, an overbased calcium-based detergent, an ashless friction modifier, and, optionally, other performance additives. The instant lubricating composition has a High Temperature High Shear (HTHS) viscosity according to ASTM D4683 of less than 2.7 mPa s. The instant lubricating compositions disclosed herein may accomplish one or more of the following improve fuel economy, reduce corrosion, reduce oxidation, improve cleanliness, and improve wear performance of an internal combustion engine.

摘要: A lubricating composition includes an oil of lubricating viscosity and an ionic tetrahedral borate compound which includes a cation and a tetrahedral borate anion which includes a boron atom, the boron atom having at least one aromatic bidentate di-oxo ligand. The compound may be represented by formula (I), where R1 and R2 are selected from C1-48 hydrocarbyl groups or together form a substituted or unsubstituted 5- or 6-membered ring; R3 and R4 together represent a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic ring; m is 0 or 1; X is hydrogen, a C1-24 hydrocarbyl group, —OR5, —NHR5, or ═O, R5 is a C1-24 hydrocarbyl group; M represents the cation; and n is at least 1. The cation may be selected to provide detergent and/or dispersant properties to the lubricating composition. In the case of ammonium cations, the molecular weight may be 260 g/mol or higher for providing a highly soluble compound, particularly when X is ═O.

摘要: A lubricating oil comprises a base oil; and an anti-degradation additive comprising microcapsules, nanocapsules, or a combination comprising at least one of the foregoing; the microcapsules and the nanocapsules each independently having a core of a neutralizing material and a polymeric encapsulant configured to release the neutralizing material in an acidic environment by breaking crosslinks or hydrogen bonds in the polymeric encapsulant. The released neutralizing material can prevent the formation of viscous, high molecular weight molecules thus enhancing the lifetime of the lubricating oil and improving its reliability.
