    摘要: It is an object of the present invention to provide a non-conjugated cyclic diene and a non-conjugated cyclic diene composition which enable the production of a polymer based on non-conjugated cyclic diene which makes it possible to produce a (co)polymer at a high degree of polymerization activity, and a method of producing a polymer based on non-conjugated cyclic diene which makes it possible to produce a (co)polymer at a high degree of polymerization activity. A non-conjugated cyclic diene is used which meets at least one of the following requirements: (1) it contains a compound having a seven-membered cyclic triene hydrocarbon structure in a specific amount or less and (2) it contains a conjugated polyene compound having an eight-membered bicyclic hydrocarbon structure in a specific amount. Also, in a method of producing a non-conjugated cyclic diene polymer, the aforementioned non-conjugated cyclic diene is supplied to the polymerization or copolymerization using an olefin polymerization catalyst containing an organic aluminum oxy compound and/or an ionizing ionic compound. Also, in another method of producing a non-conjugated cyclic diene polymer, a non-conjugated cyclic diene which is obtained by bringing a crude non-conjugated cyclic diene into contact with an alkali and then removing at least a part of a low-boiling point fraction and at least a part of a high-boiling point fraction is used for the polymerization.

    摘要: The specification discloses a method for making DCPD based resins that have relatively narrow molecular weight distributions. The method comprises thermally polymerizing dicyclopentadiene monomer in the presence of one or more strong acids, preferably with an olefinic modifier, to provide a dicyclopentadiene oligomer. Optionally, an organic sulfur species can also be used to further effect molecular weight control. For end-use performance in inks, adhesives, coatings and other related areas, the invention provides dicyclopentadiene oligomer resins having weight average molecular weights less than 1000 and relatively narrow molecular weight distributions, as measured by a polydispersity index, of less than about 2.3. Among the strong acids that are effective for controlling molecular weight, hypophosphorous acid is preferred because it gives light colored resins.

    摘要: A high flash point cycloolefin composition, including at least 50% by weight dicyclopentadiene, the composition having a flash point of greater than 100.degree. F. and a viscosity of from about 3 cps to about 3000 cps at about 70.degree. F. and about 1 atmosphere pressure. The cycloolefin composition is used in a method of preparation of cycloolefin for polymerization by metathesis catalysis to form a substantially crosslinked thermoset polymer by: distilling the cycloolefin to form distilled cycloolefin, and contacting the distilled cycloolefin and an adsorbent.
