Abstract: Among other things, a first surface is configured to receive a sample and is to be used in a microscopy device. There is a second surface to be moved into a predefined position relative to the first surface to form a sample space that is between the first surface and the second surface and contains at least part of the sample. There is a mechanism configured to move the second surface from an initial position into the predefined position to form the sample space. When the sample is in place on the first surface, the motion of the second surface includes a trajectory that is not solely a linear motion of the second surface towards the first surface.

Abstract: A sample image capturing system includes a sample holding apparatus configured to hold a sample slide on which a sample film is applied; an imaging apparatus configured to capture the sample on the sample slide; a sample appearance image obtaining apparatus configured to obtain a sample appearance image, where the sample appearance image includes at least an appearance image of the sample film; and a controller configured to: obtain the sample appearance image, identify an appearance characteristic of the sample film based on the sample appearance image, determine a capturing parameter based on the appearance characteristic, and control the imaging apparatus to capture, with the capturing parameter, sample components on the sample slide. The disclosure further relates to a sample image capturing method and a computer-readable storage medium. The disclosure can use a characteristic of the appearance image to achieve accurate capturing of sample images.

Abstract: A chip includes a micro-channel unit for hydraulically classifying cells in a blood sample. In a micro-channel unit, liquid flowing from a sub channel into a main channel pushes cells flowing in the main channel toward a side thereof on which a removal channel and a collection channel are disposed. Fluid containing non-nucleated RBCs among the pushed cells enters the removal channel, so that the non-nucleated RBCs are removed from a blood sample. A plurality of micro-channel units having the same patterns as each other are repeatedly stacked in a height direction. Inlets of the main channels, inlets of the sub channels, outlets of the removal channels, outlets of the collection channels, and outlets of the main channels, which are provided in the micro-channel units, are connected to respective pillar channels penetrating each of layers in a traversing manner.

Abstract: A method for counting blood cells in a sample of whole blood. The method comprises the steps of: (a) providing a sample of whole blood; (b) depositing the sample of whole blood onto a slide, e.g., a microscope slide; (c) employing a spreader to create a blood smear; (d) allowing the blood smear to dry on the slide; (e) measuring absorption or reflectance of light attributable to the hemoglobin in the red blood cells in the blood smear on the slide; (f) recording a magnified two-dimensional digital image of the area of analysis identified by the measurement in step (e) as being of suitable thickness for analysis; and (g) collecting, analyzing, and storing data from the magnified two-dimensional digital image. Optionally, steps of fixing and staining of blood cells on the slide can be employed in the method.

Abstract: A magnetohydrodynamic microfluidic system and a method of pumping a fluid using a magnetohydrodynamic system are disclosed. The method includes applying at least one of an electric current and an electric voltage to a first modified electrode and a second electrode to generate an ionic current between the first modified electrode and the second electrode and to cause a current carrying species to move to or from the modified electrode, applying a magnetic field perpendicular to an ionic current vector, the magnetic field and the ionic current combining to induce flow of the fluid in a direction perpendicular to the magnetic field and the ionic current vector, and maintaining fluid flow by recharging the modified electrode.

Abstract: A system and method for quantifying white blood cells in a blood sample is described. The system includes a sample medium for depositing the same blood. The sample medium is positioned between a first electrode and a second electrode. The system also includes an electrical analyser for supping pulsing sweeping voltage across the electrodes through the sample medium. The electrical analyser is also configured for measuring capacitance across the sample medium before and after adding a chemical analyte. The system also includes a general processor in electrical or wireless communication with the electrical analyser configured for quantifying the white blood cells in the blood sample based on the generated capacitance-voltage profile. The method is described to operate the system and to quantify the white blood cells in a blood sample.
