Abstract: A mid-wave infrared system provides high spatial and temporal resolution measurements of atmospheric temperatures and moisture fields using a constellation of low earth orbit satellites. The disclosed system is smaller, lighter, less complex, and requires less energy than existing systems, due to implementation of an infrared avalanche photodiode array detector that provides enhanced sensitivity with reduced cooling requirements, and an Offner spectrometer having a novel a refractive element inserted near the grating that reduces the size and power requirements of the spectrometer. Embodiments of the disclosed method include deploying a constellation of devices for cooperative infrared sensing of atmospheric phenomena at similar rates, lower cost, and much higher resolution compared to geosynchronous approaches. Some embodiments further include combined analysis of measurements obtained by the disclosed devices with complementary measurements made by other low-earth and high-earth orbital and/or ground-based devices.

Abstract: This application is directed to a home monitoring and control system including a doorbell installed at a door of a home, an application executable by a monitoring device, and a remote server. The doorbell has a button configured to, upon being touched, depressed or activated, wirelessly cause an audio speaker of an electronic device to sound an audible notification or a message to be sent to the monitoring device to indicate presence of a person at the door. The doorbell also has a camera configured to capture video data within a field of view. The remote server is configured to receive from the doorbell the video data and the message, and relay them to the monitoring device. The application is configured to receive and display at least a portion of the video data captured by the camera of the doorbell.

Abstract: Body temperature of a toilet user may be non-intrusively obtained on a regular basis using one or more non-contact optical temperature sensors having a field-of-view between a surface of a toilet bowl and a user of the toilet while the user is releasing body excrement into the toilet. An output of the non-contact optical temperature sensor is used to determine a body temperature of the user based on at least one of: a temperature of the body excrement while the body excrement is in the field-of-view of the non-contact optical temperature sensor, a temperature of a perineal area of the user while using the toilet, a temperature of the body excrement while the body excrement is detached from the body and falling toward the surface of the toilet bowl, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: Asmart-home device comprises a user interface including an electronic display having a first display mode and a second display mode, the first display mode generally requiring more power than said second display mode. The device further comprises a processing system coupled to the user interface. The processing system is configured to be in operative communication with one or more environmental sensors for determining at least one environmental condition, and in operative communication with one or more input devices including said user interface. The device further comprises at least one sensor configured to detect a physical closeness of a user to the at least one sensor. The at least one sensor is in operative communication with the processing system. The processing system is configured to cause the electronic display to be in the first display mode when a closeness threshold has been exceeded. The processing system is further configured to automatically adjust said closeness threshold based at least in part on a historical plurality of physical closeness events as detected by the at least one sensor.

Abstract: This patent specification relates to a wall switch that comprises a docking station and a user-removable wall-switch head unit. In some embodiments, the docking station is configured to receive the user-removable wall-switch head unit, and configured to be permanently connected to a wall and coupled to high-power voltage wires. In some embodiments, the user-removable wall-switch head unit is configured to be user-insertable into said docking station and user-removable therefrom such that the user is not exposed to high-voltage connections when inserting or removing. In some embodiments, the wall switch controller further comprises inputs and outputs and circuitry for switchably controlling household line current power to a household electrical fixture. Abstract: A temperature monitoring system for a passenger transport apparatus includes a temperature detection apparatus; and a control apparatus. When the temperature of at least one of a plurality of components is lower than a working temperature range, the control apparatus sends out a notification message and/or enables a heating apparatus to heat the component; when the temperature of at least one of the plurality of components reaches an early warning temperature range, the control apparatus sends out a notification message and/or enables a heat dissipation apparatus to dissipate heat for the component; and when the temperature of at least one of the plurality of components continues to rise and exceeds the working temperature range, the control apparatus sends out a notification message and/or enables the passenger transport apparatus to brake. The present invention is able to monitor a component running condition and predict a component service life.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a hazard detector may include a back plate and a front casing coupled to the back plate to define a housing having an interior region and an opening through which air flows into the interior region. A circuit board may be coupled to the back plate and have a plurality of components mounted thereon. A smoke chamber may be mid-mounted on the circuit board, mid-mounting being characterized in the smoke chamber extending through a hole formed in the circuit board such that a top surface of the smoke chamber is positioned above a top surface of the circuit board and a bottom surface of the smoke chamber is positioned below a bottom surface of the circuit board, whereby an interior region of the smoke chamber is accessible to smoke from both the top and bottom surfaces of the circuit board.

A flash source is located in the aperture wherein the flash source generates a light pulse that heats the turbine component. The device also includes an infrared sensor for detecting thermal energy radiated by the turbine component wherein the radiated thermal energy is transmitted through the aperture to the infrared sensor to enable generation of an infrared image of the turbine component.
