摘要: Systems and methods for coordinating distributed energy storage in accordance with embodiments of the invention are illustrated. One embodiment includes a power distribution network, including a set of nodes, wherein a node includes a controllable load, an uncontrollable load, and a local controller, a substation connected to each node in the set of nodes by a set of distribution lines, and a global controller including a processor, a memory, and a communications device, wherein the global controller obtains load parameters from at least one node, calculates coordination parameters for each node based on the obtained load parameters, and asynchronously provides the coordination parameters to each of the nodes in the set of nodes, and wherein each node independently obtains coordination parameters, and controls the operation of its controllable load using the local controller based on the coordination parameters and a local load profile describing at least the uncontrollable load.

摘要: Methods and systems for implementing experimental trials on utility grids. The variation of grid parameters are coordinated to create periods of time and areas of space from within which the variations of grid parameters do not overlap, allowing sensor data within those periods of time and areas of space to be associated with particular variations in grid parameters. This associated data can in turn be used to improve models of sensor response and utility grid behavior.

摘要: An electrical system can include first and second electrical loads. The electrical system can also include a first power supply coupled to the first electrical load, where the first electrical load receives first power from the first power supply at a first time. The electrical system can further include a second power supply coupled to the second electrical load, where the second electrical load receives second power from the second power supply at the first time. The electrical system can also include a first switch disposed between and coupled to the first electrical load and the second power supply. The first switch, when in an open position at the first time, can prevent the second power from being received by the first electrical load. The first switch, when in a closed position at a second time, can allow the second power to be received by the first electrical load.

摘要: Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems for charging and discharging an energy storage device connected to an electrical power distribution system. In one exemplary embodiment, a controller monitors electrical characteristics of an electrical power distribution system and provides an output to a bi-directional charger causing the charger to charge or discharge an energy storage device (e.g., a battery in a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)).The controller can help stabilize the electrical power distribution system by increasing the charging rate when there is excess power in the electrical power distribution system (e.g., when the frequency of an AC power grid exceeds an average value), or by discharging power from the energy storage device to stabilize the grid when there is a shortage of power in the electrical power distribution system (e.g., when the frequency of an AC power grid is below an average value).

In some embodiments, the power monitoring system includes: a sampling device configured to measure patterns of how loads included in the power system consume energy; an electric meter configured to measure a first amount of energy supplied from a transmission system to the power system; a power supply configured to supply power stored therein or generate power to supply it to the power system, and measure a second amount of energy supplied to the power system; an external server configured to receive measurements of the patterns from the sampling device, and obtain a third amount of energy consumed by the loads based on the measurements; and a home server configured to receive the first amount of energy and/or second amount of energy and transmit/receive data to/from the external server.

摘要: According to one embodiment, a smart home device includes a front casing that is coupleable with a back plate to define a housing having an interior region within which one or more components of the smart home device are contained. The smart home device also includes an occupancy sensor that is disposed within the interior region of the smart home device and a button cap component that is positioned axially in front of the occupancy sensor. The button cap component is pressable by a user to actuate a switch that is disposed axially behind the button cap component. The smart home device further includes a lighting component that is positioned axially behind the button cap component. The lighting component is configured to disperse light circumferentially around the button cap component so as to provide a visual halo effect around the button cap component.
